Donna Mae Ring Stavig

February 16, 2026

Donna Stavig passed away on February 16 at the age of 90. She was born in Madison, South Dakota, the first child of Tom and Grace Ring. After graduating from Madison High School, she attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where she was an English major and where she met Mark Stavig. She and Mark married in 1957 in Germany and spent their first married years in Oxford, England, where Mark studied English Literature and where Donna taught English at a boys' school. They moved to Princeton, New Jersey and then to Madison, Wisconsin where Mark had his first teaching position. The family moved to Colorado Springs in 1968 where Mark joined the English Department at Colorado College. Donna loved the CC community and made wonderful friends. She was a passionate cook and excelled at baking bread and Norwegian goodies. She loved hosting friends and family and created memorable special occasions. Donna was very involved in politics and successfully ran a campaign for a state legislator. She also served as a board member and finally President of the Pikes Peak Mental Health Center. She worked several years at the United Way and volunteered extensively, reading for the elderly throughout her life. She was a member of the local reviewers book club and hiked and skied weekly with friends. She and Mark had ski passes and spent many winter days in Breckenridge. She is survived by her daughter Anne (Hal), their daughters Kaia and Emma; her son Tom (Marleah), their son Karl; her son Rolf (Lisa), their son Andrew and their daughter Lilian; and her brother Ken (Colleen). A Celebration of Life will be at the Solterra Retreat in Lakewood on April 12 from 1 to 4. In lieu of flowers, donations may go to The Action Center in Lakewood.
