Edith McGee Obituary

Edith M. McGee passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2009 in Colorado Springs, CO. She was a 47 year resident of the Springs, moving here in 1962. Edith was born in Oelsnitz/Vogtland, Germany on August 19, 1927. Before World War II began, Edith had fond memories of growing up in her beautiful hometown in Germany, boating on the river in the summer and sledding in the winter with her parents, brother, and cousins. During the war, Edith fled to Frankfurt, Germany where she would meet the love of her life, George S. McGee, who was stationed there with the U.S. Army. Edith and George had four beautiful children early in their marriage though all four perished in an automobile accident with George's mother in Germany. With God's help, they would eventually recover from this great tragedy and enjoyed over 50 years of marriage. During her lifetime, Edith worked at many jobs, including Army Base Exchanges, Western Forge, and the U.S. Air Force Academy. Among the passions in her life, she enjoyed dressing up and attending events/fundraisers and hosted numerous parties in their home. An avid supporter of the military, firefighters and police in Colorado Springs, Edith consistently donated money to various organizations which supported these men and women. A frequent visitor to police and fire stations in her community, she would bring cookies as a thank you for their service. Edith is survived by cousins, a godson in Germany, and plenty of friends who will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her husband, four children, parents, and brother. A graveside service was held for her on Friday, June 19, 2009. Interment was at Memorial Gardens, Colorado Springs, CO. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the American Heart Association in Edith's name.
