Ellis Barker Obituary

Bob passed away at home on Monday, November 20, 2006 after a long and courageous battle with emphysema. He was born in Kent, Iowa on March 28, 1935 to Ellis and Lulu V. (Bailiff) Barker. Bob was married to Wylene Akers on February 23, 1952 in Clarinda, Iowa, and lived there until 1957 when he moved to Colorado Springs with his family. Bob is survived by his wife Wylene; three children: Christene Kay (Clint) Zaba, Diane Lynette Montoya and Ricky Ellis (Ondré) Barker; nine grandchildren: Tara Kay Harris and Cody Dean Harris, Tracy Marie (Dale) Erfle, Ricky Andrew Montoya, James Joseph Stallins, Dustin J. Montoya, Ryan Ellis Barker, and Kathryn Elizabeth Barker; six great grandchildren: Matthew James, Rebecca Wylene, and Amanda Grace Pepper, Joshua James, Colleen Cheryl, and Michaela Marie Erfle. Also surviving is his brother Richard (Shirley) Barker of Sacramento, California. Bob's parents and three brothers: Danny, Ronald, and Doyle Barker preceded him in death. Bob worked in the sheet metal trade for 44 years and founded Barker Heating and Sheet Metal, Inc. in 1975, and sold the corporation in 1995 due to his failing health. He was a man of many talents during his lifetime, one of which was auto body work and restoring antique cars. He loved spending time with his family, traveling in their motor home, riding their Honda trike, fishing, and in his later years he became an accomplished wood carver. Bob will be remembered for his integrity, honesty, and kindness to others. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 24, 2006. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, both at the Shrine of Remembrance. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Bob's name may be made to Pikes Peak Hospice, 825 East Pikes Peak Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903.

When you enter this life, you don't get to chose who your parents are. Of all the people in this world, I wouldn't have picked anyone else to be my Dad. He was always my soft place to land, always finding the good in everyone. His wit and humor were legend. I will miss him every moment of every day.

Bob was a great guy and more than an uncle. He was also a friend and I appreciated him for being a genuine good guy to everybody he was involved with. I respected Bob's high ethical standards and he was a good example of an honest businessman and husband and we'll miss him.

We were so grateful that we met Bob & Wylene in 2000 when we first came to AZ. We wished that we had had more time to be with them. We enjoyed our visit with them both in Colorado Springs.

We also were able to speak with Bob & Wylene just weeks before his passing. We were thankful for that too.

Bob was an inspiration to us in the way that he dealt with his illness. Likewise Wylene as his caregiver was truly dedicated to him. We honor you both in this message & pray that God's love & blessings will see you through in the coming days and years.

May God bless you and your family!
