Frederick McFadden Obituary

Frederick R. McFadden passed away August 9, 2009 in Colorado Springs from cardiac complications. He was born April 22, 1933 in Escanaba Michigan to Theodore and Genevieve (Barron) McFadden. He was raised on a farm in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and was driving a tractor by the age of 5. He is survived by his Irish lassie of 50 years, Evelyn (Duffy) McFadden and their 3 children, Christine (Tony) Falette, Theresa (Paul) Lutze, and Michael McFadden, all of Colorado Springs. He is also survived by his sister Janice Kuhn and grandchildren Jason Falette, Chesarae Falette, Maegan (Brian) Contreras, Ryan Lutze and a great-grandson, Corban Contreras. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, George(Mick) McFadden. Fred devoted his life to higher education. He received his Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State University, his MBA from UCLA and his PhD in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University. He dedicated his 30 year career as a Professor in the College of Business at UCCS and was a published author. Fred was passionate about classical music and sports, particularly tennis. He was a master bridge-player and instructor. He had a great love for the outdoors and enjoyed camping, hiking, bicycling, skiing and had a great appreciation for nature. His love of travel took him to many interesting places. One of his favorite pastimes was spending time with his beloved grandchildren. Fred was a very philanthropic man who shared deeply with others and was a dedicated caregiver. His humor and wit entertained all who knew him. Fred will be deeply missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The Colorado Springs Symphony or The World Wildlife Fund (wwf.org) The family wishes to extend their thanks to the wonderful physicians and staff at Penrose Hospitals for their valiant service. A visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, August 12, 2009, 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., at Swan-Law Funeral Directors . The Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, August 13, 2009, 10:00 a.m., Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church, 11020 Teachout Road, Black Forest, Colorado, with a visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. Private burial will follow the service.

Dear Evie, Mike, Chris, Theresa and Families.
We were so sad to receive Chris's note today and learn of the passing of our dear former neighbor and friend. We so enjoyed the years you all lived on High Meadows Dr. and in recent years we often got together with Fred and Evie for cake and ice cream to celebrate both Fred's and Joe's birthdays two days apart. This year it wasn't possible due to Evie just getting out of the hospital. May the Lord comfort you all in your sorrow.

You taught me so much throughout the years. I will never forget you teaching me how to snow plow on the slopes when I was about 8. I fell flat on my face and we both laughed for some time. You mostly taught me the importance of friends and family and to always find humor in life. Uncle Sweetie you are deeply missed. Until we meet again... Luv u.

Hi All.....
I am very saddened about the passing of Uncle Fred. He, like my Dad, was a very kind and gentle person; more than anyone I have ever known. As I have grown older, I realize how much we had in common and how little time I had to share that with both Fred and my Dad. It is hard to believe that it wasn't that long ago that I was sitting where you all are at right now.....I'm praying that God will ease the sadness of his passing and fill the gap with many wonderful memories....I wish I could be there to share them with you....Love to you all!

It's so hard to find the right words to say - Fred meant the world to me as well, and I will be eternally grateful to him for treating me like one of the family. Breakfast at Wimbledon will never be the same without him! I pray that that the love of friends and family help get you through this difficult time.
