Gary Gieringer Obituary

Gary V. Gieringer, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away on May 7, 2024 surrounded by family.
Gary was born to Harold and Dorothy Gieringer on November 21, 1934 in Dayton, Ohio. Precocious and kind, traits that would later serve him well as a physician, Gary was well known among the local residents for exploring the newer areas of the recently established Oakwood section of Dayton. Gary attended Denison University and The Ohio State University College of Medicine. It was at Ohio State where Gary met his wife, Peggy, who was pursuing a Master's degree in Social Work.
Upon graduating from medical school, Gary volunteered for the United States Air Force as a flight surgeon, based in Amarillo, Texas. Following the completion of his military service, Gary and Peggy relocated to the growing city of Colorado Springs, Colorado, which would serve as their home for more than 50 years. Here, Gary established a medical practice catering to the underserved residents of the city's West Side. As a life-long servant to his community, Gary fondly recalled his career as a physician and his opportunity to help others as his most meaningful life achievement. In his free time, Gary took up tennis and skiing and attended as many of his children's activities as possible. In retirement, he researched family genealogy and traveled throughout the country, satisfying his great interest in Native American and Revolutionary and Civil War history. He was a devoted supporter of his Ohio State Buckeyes and the Denver Broncos.
Gary is survived by his daughters, Anneliese Gieringer, and Christiana "Kippy" Christenson, by his son, Grant Gieringer, and by five granddaughters. He is also survived by his brother, Rob, and by his sister, Cindy Trask. Gary was predeceased by his wife Peggy and his youngest son, Bret Schuyler.
Services for Gary and a celebration of his life will be held on July 25, 2023 at 11 am at Chapel of our Savior in Colorado Springs. All are welcome to join the family in remembrance of Gary and his family.

Dr Gieringer was my childhood Dr and later, he took care of my husband, son and myself; after we returned to Colorado Springs, CO. As the pastors of a small church, we had very minimal health insurance. When I got pneumonia, he saw me in his office, every other day, so I wouldn´t have a hospital bill. He let us make payments to him, & when we moved out of state (just before his retirement), he wrote off our bill.
We really felt cared for, by him.
I was very impressed that he was always on the cutting edge of the medical progressions over the years.
We will surely miss him! Not only was he our Dr, but a true friend, as well!

I am sorry to hear of this loss to his remaining family, but for him, I guess it was time.
I owe much of my success in life to his influence as my older brother.
