Gisela Wimberger Obituary

Gisela Wimberger passed away on November 27, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer. Gisela was best known as the owner of Wimberger's Bakery and Deli, which she co-founded with her husband, the late Robert Wimberger, back in 1970. Born May 17th, 1930 in Kunau, Germany, Gisela was the daughter of the late Paul and Anna Melchior. She met Robert in Garmisch, Germany in the later 1940's and after a brief stay in Canada, they moved to the United States in 1956. Shortly after moving to Colorado Springs, they started the bakery in the summer of 1970. Later that same year, at the insistence of Gisela, Robert began baking the German breads for which the bakery is now famous. She is survived by her sons: Robert and Randy; her daughter-in-law, Ulrike; a grandson, Toby (Cherrie); a great granddaughter, Arianna; and a sister, Christa and family in Germany. She was a very active member of the local German community, loved bridge and was an avid world traveler. In accordance with Gisela's wishes, cremation will take place with no visitation. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 3, 2009 at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to be made to Pikes Peak Hospice, 825 East Pikes Peak Avenue #600, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903.

"Playing "Poco Poco Pocola" for Gisela (her favorite German tune) is a fond memory I have during her visits to the Edelweiss Restaurant with her family. She was a very kind and classy lady. I'll miss her sweet smile and warm ways." - Susi, the accordionist

Our heartfeltcondolences to the Wimberger family at this time of your loss. My mom, Tess, and deceased father, Troy, knew both Bob & Gisela for many years thru their membership in the Germania Club and became close friends. Our family have been long-time customers of the bakery. Mom shared a memory of Gisela visiting my mom's family in Heimersheim, Germany, and enjoying singing w/ the women's choir that my uncle conducts. We saw Gisela a few months ago in Cripple Creek. Her memory will stay alive in our hearts and minds, and we pray that memories comfort family, friends & associates.

To Gisela's Family,
My deppest sympathy for your loss. My Husband & i rented her house in Skyway on Northstar Dr in the late 90's for 2 years & helped her re-paint, redo & take good care of it up until we moved out. My husband also did some body work on her vehicle she use to drive. We really enjoyed renting from her & she was truly a very good landlord, one of the best we had. We also use to shop at the bakery on ocassion & all that was made there was also amazing along with delicious. Her bread & cakes especially touched our hearts. made us feel like the heart was truly put into making the food taste wonderful for her customers. She will be truly missed & we wish the family well, & our Prayers go out to everyone in her life that she wasspecial too.
Sincerely,
Mary Congiusti, Colorado Springs, Co
