Glenn Driscoll Obituary

Driscoll
GLENN FRANCIS DRISCOLL
February 1, 1927 November 8, 2020
On November 8, 2020, Glenn Driscoll breathed his last breath in Seattle, Washington where he spent the last years of his life. But his heart was always in the Colorado mountains. He asked that his ashes be distributed at his two favorite places: the Indian Mountain property where the ashes from his children's mother were buried, and at the Rock Creek property, his favorite getaway for decades.
A few days earlier, Glenn learned that his chances of leaving his hospital room to go home again were slight. At 93 years old, his heart and lungs were giving out. He saw that what strength he had left could be put to better use by saying a few things to the large family that would miss him when he was gone, in the same way you miss the best side of yourself when you need it and it's just not there.
"I want to say that all my life I've been fascinated with love. We all want to be loved. To feel important. To be understood. What we should be asking is, what can I give to you to love you and for you to love me." He thought for a moment. "And, we need to ask ourselves, what am I expecting from you for me to love you. Be kind. Lead your lives with as much kindness as you can. Know that you will have my love to take with you."
Glenn Francis Driscoll was born on February 1, 1927 in Holbrook Village, Iowa as the youngest child of Clem Driscoll and Esther Lenoch. He had two siblings: Ralph and Helen Mae.
Glenn joined the army June 1, 1945, served in Germany, and left the army December 29, 1946. He married Jeannine Ann Layer on August 3, 1948. Together they had five children: Sandra, Scott, Dave, Jeff, and Alicia.
He graduated from Buena Vista College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1951, with an education degree and particular love of coaching. In the 1960s, he added a masters degree in counseling at Colorado College. He was one of the early teachers hired by the newly formed Widefield School District #3, serving as teacher, director of counseling and principal. Retiring in the 1980s, he focused on teaching teachers, coaching people to choose positive change in their lives, volunteering, and exploring Colorado's geologic and human history with his closest buddies.
Jeannine died April 14, 1997. He married Ruth Lavern St. Onge on March 20, 2001 after which they had many years exploring the world. Ruth died July 7, 2010. Glenn's extended family included his children and their spouses: Sandra, Scott (Daiga), Dave, deceased March, 2009 (Joan), Jeff (Kathi), and Alicia (Raul). Glenn's grandchildren included: Jenni, Matt, Evania, Megan, Ellie, Aubrie, Rachel, and Dain. Glenn's great-grandchildren included: Nicole, Fineen, Wyatt, Blake, and Collin (deceased May, 2019).
Donations in his honor can be made to CASA of the Pikes Peak Region www.casappr.org

Glenn Driscoll, my father, made it his mission later in life, after the children were grown and he could relax a little, to roam, to keep moving, to keep discovering the world he called home, and perhaps more importantly, to spread kindness wherever he stayed. I have not done a good job of living up to his legacy, but I hope to one day.

Glenn was (is) an amazing soul. I learned through him to meet the needs of others. To listen and develop training that fit their needs and to deliver it in a facilitative way that allowed them to discover their self, soul, and heart centered purpose. Glenn, you are ever present in my thoughts I am grateful for your insights and kindness.

Mr. Driscoll was my principal at Sproul Jr. High in the early 1960s and he was also the principal who gave me my first teaching job at Janitell Jr. High in 1974. He used to talk about how everyone had a personal “board of directors “, people who had significant and everlasting influence on ones life. Well Mr. Driscoll was on my “board of directors”. He was a great man and one of the most caring educators I have ever known. The guidance he gave to me in my own educational career was momentous. I admired him, respected him and believed in him.
My condolences to his family. How fortunate you must feel to have been part of his loving family.

What a wonderful mentor and kind soul. I will always appreciate his work with our most fragile kids when I was with CASA. Blessings to you all.

First of all, my sincerest heartfelt sympathies to the family. In the early 1970s I was a student at Sproul Junior High School. Glen Driscoll was part of the staff which included Phil Cozzie, Don Stanec, and Caesar Guiterres . I remember him as a soft-spoken , gentle and always kind individual. I have thought of him often throughout the decades , wondering how and where he might be. One of the last times I saw him I was in the grocery store with my young daughter, (now just shy of 39) and unbeknownst to me he had stopped to observe my interaction with her. When he reached me he told me how beautiful it was to see the obvious love I had for my child. This further epitomized his constant awareness, readiness to offer commendation and share his thoughtful insights. I will forever remember this gentle soul as one who impacted my life for the good. I am certain he will be missed by the many whose lives he touched!

At the end, when it was clear he was not going to be able to go back home, we asked him if he was afraid. He was fully lucid. Okay, his hearing wasn't so good, but he gave that broad smile of his and said, "No, I'm not afraid. I'm curious to see what's coming next." We loved him, we love him, we worried, he set our minds at ease. His final gift.

I was so fortunate to have Mr. Driscoll as a teacher and a principal in Widefield. He was a wonderful mentor and I enjoyed learning from him. A life well lived for sure. Condolences to his family in this time when losing someone is even more difficult with so many restrictions. I hope you were able to be with him when he passed from this Earth.

I’m so sad to hear about Glenn Driscoll’s passing. He was always so kind to me in high school and later during my teacher training. He was truly an inspiration to his students and an incredible mentor to teachers like me. Rest In Peace Mr. Driscoll. God Speed!

My condolences to his family. I'm deeply saddened of this news to my beloved former Principal and my very first counselor. He picked me as one of his students in his counseling group and I was so happy and honored of it.Back in jr high they first started the program for this and alot of us was assigned to various staff as our counselor's. I was deeply honored I was one of his students. It didn't matter with him, he always had time for you to say hi, how's it going. Whether in the hallway or in his office. He's an amazing man and I always look up to him and I tried to keep in touch and send my thoughts his way. Like my dad, he is a very special man who you can learn and appreciate all in life. I also meet part of his family when I was in school. I will always hold him dear in my heart forever. He will always be a dear family friend. Liane Ballard (Daniel) Christine, Delano (Inge)
