Gregory Nelson Obituary

Greg went home to be with his Savior on Wednesday, May 8, 2013. Greg was born in Colorado Springs to Raymond and Dorothy Nelson. As a young person, he realized and believed that the God of the universe died to save him from his sin. That belief led him to a life of uncompromising integrity and loyalty. He graduated from Palmer High School where he was actively involved in golf and hockey. He served his country in the Air Force and is a veteran of the Vietnam War. While he was in Vietnam, he was the church organist for all the religious services. On June 23, 1972, Greg married the love of his life, Martha Berry. Greg graduated from UCCS with a Business degree in Accounting and became a CPA. He has worked at Phil Long Dealerships for over 37 years, where he was currently employed as Senior Financial Officer. He was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Colorado Society of Certified Public Accountants. There was always a special love for his family, his church family, and the Phil Long Dealership family. He is survived by his wife, Martha; sister, Kathy Bouse DeMasi (husband Ray); cousin, Larry Nelson (wife Sue); and many extended family and friends. Visitation will be Monday, May 13, 2013 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. The memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Black Forest, 10915 Black Forest Road, 495-4185. Interment will follow the service at Evergreen Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Missions Fund at First Baptist Church of Black Forest. I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Greg. My deepest sympathy goes out to his wife and family. Greg and I have known each other many years. Being a native of Colorado Springs and golfer as well as an ex bankers our paths crossed many time. Greg and I played for years together in the Pikes Peak Amateur golf tourney at Patty Jewett. He was always a gentlemen and conducted him as such on the course. He had a great sense of humor and was a pleasure to play golf with. Sincerely David Parker

Most of my good memories of childhood include Greg. The number of hours that we spent together playing chess, shooting pool, practicing putting and chipping, practicing slap shoots, and being on the same bowling team, etc. Greg and his family influenced my early childhood very much, I will always remember Greg as a solid Christian friend.
