It is with sadness that we announce the death of Haldon "Doc" Lindfelt on January 22, 2023. Hal was born on June 26, 1938 in Davenport, Iowa. Soon after his birth, his family moved to Montrose, CO where they owned and operated a cattle ranch. Hal's father also owned a livestock sale barn. After college, Hal worked with him as an auctioneer for a short while.
After earning a bachelor's degree at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin and a Master's degree in history at Adams State College, he began a teaching career at Cheyenne Mountain High School. Along with his teaching duties, he also worked as an athletic trainer where he acquired the nickname "Doc". He was an excellent teacher and also led summer trips for his dedicated students throughout the Southwest.
Traveling the world was a passion for him, and he was able to visit China, Viet Nam, Russia, Peru, South Africa, Egypt, and most countries in Europe. He traveled to his favorite city, Paris, many times. Besides travel, Hal loved the theater, music, good food, and good friends.
Hal was a devoted father and grandfather to his two children, Leslie and Chris and his four grandson's, Wyatt, Cooper, Garrett, and Dalton. He is survived by his daughter Leslie, his grandsons, his daughter-in-law, Dawn, his three sisters, Kitty Belle, Polly, and Jody as well as his nieces and a nephew. His beloved son, Chris, preceded him in death in 2018. Hal was a trusted and valued friend who will be truly missed.

I was lucky enough to be one of Doc's trainers at CMHS and his history student. He brought so much happiness and acceptance to my time there, it truly changed my life. He was an amazing teacher - wise, kind, funny, and so accepting of all of us. He will not be forgotten.

I loved Doc and had the great honor to be a student of his, an athlete who benefited from his care and concern, and then to teach in his department and share in his legacy at CMHS. I also loved the sparkle in his eyes when he would talk about his travels with his beloved group of friends.
He was an altogether lovely human and I´m so glad I knew him and his beautiful family.

Hal was so influential at Cheyenne, such a renaissance man who influenced, students, athletes, and colleagues. When I´d ask what he was currently reading, his answer compelled and intimidated me all at once, anyone from I. F. Stone to Rushdie to Raymond Carver. Such a bright mind with a gentle, good heart. There is not another Doc.

Deepest condolences to Hal´s family and dear friends. This photo was taken in Milan in 2007 when Hal accompanied my sister Teresa and me to Italy to scatter some of our mother´s ashes. He was like a brother, even when he ceased to be my brother-in- law. He was the one you wanted on your team for a round of Trivial Pursuit or in a downpour while camping in Estes Park. While I mourn his passing, I know he extracted every ounce of this world´s offerings. What a life! What a lovely man!

So sorry to hear about your loss. I had Doc Lindfelt as a teacher when I attended Cheyenne Mountain High School - he was a favorite teacher to many! May he rest in peace and God be with you and your family at this difficult time.

Oh, what a guy! Hal was passionate about life. He couldn't see enough of the planet, eat enough delicious food, love his children & grandchildren any more completely or be a better friend. I enjoyed playing golf with him and hearing about his adventures. He loved teaching and was so committed to his students and athletes. My deepest sympathy to his family and all who loved him. He is missed... Kate O
