Helen Harpstrite Obituary

Helen A. (Zabalveitia) Harpstrite, age 81, a lifelong resident of Colorado Springs, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, November 5, 2005 with her family and loving pet and companion "Mitzi" at her side. She was a loving wife, mother, and the bookkeeper for her husband's business, Automasters, Inc. She worked at Fort Carson as a nurse in the 1950's. She also held positions with The Broadmoor Hotel, Montgomery Wards, and Safeway stores. Helen Zabalveitia was born on August 18, 1924 to Miguel and Elena (Dosal) Zabalveitia. She was a graduate of Colorado Springs High School. On March 31, 1951 in Raton, New Mexico, she married Tony C. Harpstrite, Sr., who preceded her in death on March 9, 2005. She served on the Board of Directors for the Chadbourn Spanish Gospel Mission for many years. She was a member of The First Weslyn Church. She very much enjoyed working outdoors in her garden with her husband Tony, caring for her many flowers and roses. She is survived by four sons: James (wife, Patricia) Harpstrite of Kaneohe, HI; Jerry Harpstrite of Huntington Beach, CA; Richard Harpstrite of Colorado Springs; and Anthony (wife, Debra) Harpstrite of Colorado Springs; and one daughter, Tina (husband, Robert) Burch of Colorado Springs. She is also survived by one brother, Mike Zabalveitia of Pueblo, CO; three sisters: Rebecca Nixon, Rachel Schlowsky, and Loretta Buchan. Also surviving are six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2005 at the Shrine of Remembrance "America the Beautiful" Chapel of Roses. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Chadbourn Gospel Mission: 402 Conejos, Colorado Springs, CO, 80903; Lord of Glory Mission: 1024 South Royer Street, Colorado Springs, CO, 80903; Silver Key Senior Services: 2250 Bott Ave, Colorado Springs, CO, 80904; or to the American Heart Association, 415 North Tejon Street #201, Colorado Springs, CO, 80903.
