James Callow Obituary

James "Jim" D. Callow, 71, of Emporia, Kansas, formerly of Colorado Springs, passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2013 in Kansas City, Kansas. He was born July 20, 1941 and was the only child born to Dee S. and Elma E. Callow of Kansas City, Missouri, who both preceded him in death. Jim was a graduate of Center High School in Kansas City and College of Emporia. He served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Searcher. He was a police officer for the city of Emporia for several years before moving to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he went into the banking business. He found his true calling in the car business; after starting his own dealership he then went to work for Carlin Dodge for many years. He continued to work buying cars well after he officially retired. He was a fishing enthusiast and enjoyed spending his summers at the lake with family and friends. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Emporia, Kansas. He is survived by two daughters, Erin K. Callow of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Megan E. Callow of Chicago, Illinois. He is also survived by a granddaughter, Sydney E. Meek of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and his beloved dog, Pepper. Services were held in Emporia, KS. The family is especially grateful for all of the support and kindness of medical staff that took care of Jim and his wonderful friends and neighbors.
