James "Jim" Engel

James (Jim) Engel passed away peacefully in Colorado Springs, CO on December 26, 2023. James was born on April 27, 1958 to George and Ethel Engel in Colorado Springs, CO. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Mary, his mother, Ethel, his 3 sisters, Jeannine of Palmer Lake, Janice of Irving, TX and JoAnn of Brigham City, UT, and several nieces and nephews. James was preceeded in death by his father, George Engel.
James graduated from UNC Greeley (BA) and UCCS (MA) in finance. Jim was very active with the Key Club during his college days. He was a lifelong Broncos fan and season ticket holder. After graduation he worked in the hotel industry until he was transferred to Alaska where Jim realized he had found his home. He went to work for native corporations and mentored many young people that were pursuing a career in the finance field. In his spare time, Jim was a photography enthusiast taking pictures of the many animals that call Alaska home. He could be found tracking bald eagles, moose and bears from the Kenai Penninsula to north of Fairbanks. Jim received many awards and ribbons for his picturesque photography.
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 18, at 1:30 PM at Benet Hill Monastery in Colorado Springs, CO with a small reception to follow immediately after burial.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the American Cancer Society.
Jim will be greatly missed by all who loved him!

My deepest condolences to Jim's entire family.
I was a year behind him at LP and remember JEngel as a nice, funny guy with a very dry sense of humor.
His passing comes way too soon.
