He was commissioned into the Air Force in 1961 had many assignments during his 30-year career, including a five-year assignment at the Air Force Academy. Jerry was an instructor, led the Navigation Department and was Air Officer Commanding for the Fourth Group of the Cadet Wing. Jerry and his family enjoy lifelong relationships with the cadets from 11th Squadron Class of 1978. His final assignment was Base and Wing Commander at Keesler AFB, Biloxi, Mississippi.

Jerry retired in 1990 to Colorado Springs. He served as a docent at the Museum of World War II Aircraft and as the head of the Colorado Springs Airport Commission. He also held many volunteer positions for The Pikes Peak Community College Foundation.

Jerry's priority was always family. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, MarilinJo, his daughter, Jill (Bailey), son David of Colorado Springs and son Craig of Windsor, CO. The family shared a love for Colorado and enjoyed many years of skiing at Breckenridge, summer camping at Farish and Estes Park, and Rockies Baseball games. Jerry was the proud grandfather of seven beloved grandchildren. He and Jo took the grandchildren on many excursions and adventures, including a glider ride on their 16th birthdays. Jerry loved AF Football and a long-term tailgate group with many friends. Jerry and Jo traveled the world after retirement.

According to Jerry's wishes, his body was donated to science. A private family celebration of life is scheduled for a later date.
