Joanna K

Fischer

January 11, 1933

February 1, 2021

Joanna K Fischer passed away on 1 February 2021. Joanna enjoyed her friends, tennis, book clubs, her volunteer work, and her family, which delighted and bedeviled her in equal measures at times. She had been a resident of Colorado Springs since 1967, and was active in many local organizations including McCallister House, The Pioneer Museum, The Fine Arts Center, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, and the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region to name a few. She enjoyed supporting the Colorado Springs Symphony, and participating in the Opera and the Chorale. She was a Disk Jockey at KCME 88.1 FM, and wrote the Cheyenne Scene for the Cheyenne Edition for many years. Recognition followed her efforts with a Silver Bell Award from the Assistance League of Colorado Springs, and the Pioneer Museum's Lucky Herzberger Award. Joanna graduated from Milton Academy in 1951, and Radcliffe College in 1955. She married Lindsay Fischer in 1956, and they spent the next 64 years together in Boulder, New York City, Bethlehem Pennsylvania, and Colorado Springs. A service will be held in due course given the circumstances.

What a wonderful, delightful, kind, intelligent, funny woman she was! I am only just now seeing this. My belated sympathy, prayers, & condolences to her family. I have SO many fond memories of her, whether from church growing up or her fine hospitality, her Erma Bombeck articles on her refrigerator, her interview with me in 1983 for the Cheyenne Edition, or catching up with her & Lindsay Sr at parties once my wife & I moved back to Colorado Springs in 2002. We love & miss you, Joanna. Thank you for all the ways you made life richer for so many.

My lifetime memories of Joanna are numerous as we became friends 50 years ago. What a talented woman she was! She was loved and respected by all of her many friends. Joanna and Lindsay were so proud of their extended family. She adored all of you - and, always so proud of your many achievements.

We loved Joanna and her sense of humor. We enjoyed her annual Christmas card to our family filled with updates on her family and it was obvious she was so proud of her children and grandchildren. We extend our deepest sympathies to Lindsay and the entire family.
