John Hartwell Boddington, age 75, died at his home on Tuesday, November 9th, 2021. He leaves behind his brother, William G "Tim" Boddington, sister-in-law Cate Boddington, two nieces, Mary Boddington and Sarah "Bootsie" Boddington, and two nephews, Henry Boddington and William "Will" Boddington.

John was born September 24, 1946, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Josephine Hartwell Boddington and William Westcott Boddington, and lived his life in Colorado Springs. He attended Steele Elementary, North Jr. High, Palmer High School and Lawrenceville Prep School in, New Jersey. He graduated from Colorado College with a degree in Economics in 1969. He was captain of the CC soccer team earning All American honors and a tryout for the U.S. Olympic team his senior year. After graduation John joined the Army and served his year in Vietnam. He joined the Boddington Lumber Co. in 1974, becoming President in 1995. John is especially remembered for his prescient forecast of the imminent housing crash of 2007 and helped the company make the difficult decision to sell after fifty years of wholesale building materials distribution. The sale of the employee owned company allowed the Boddington Lumber Co. employees to cash out their stock at great value, ensuring retirements of dozens of long term employees, some with over 45 years tenure. He loved running, tennis, beer, golf, music, especially jazz and anything analytic. His skills were leveraged by various non-profits as he was treasurer of Friends of the Pioneers Museum, a board member of KCME and in his retirement was instrumental in the creation of Trinity Brewing Company. His generous and forthright nature were admired by many. Telling it strait was his trademark. There were no frills! In his usual self-effacing fashion, he requested no service or memorial. Grateful thanks to Synergy Home Health Care and Janeth Jones who provided considerable daily assistance to John the last two years. Additionally, Heather Blasnek whose weekly visits to organize his bookkeeping kept John's financial ship on course. He was so grateful! His family and friends loved him and will miss him dearly.

I knew John in Vietnam. He served under me in the Battalion Fire Direction Center (FDC) of the 1st Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery. His ability to calculate and coordinate artillery fire mission data was outstanding. We chatted about our lives back in Colorado Springs many times even though we had never met before. The photo shows John in the middle, seated in the FDC during the time we supported the incursion of the South Vietnamese into Laos, Jan-Apr, 1971
