John Mazurowski Obituary

Mazurowski
John Edward
Mazurowski
October 18, 1955
April 6, 2026

John Edward Mazurowski completed his final flight on April 6, 2026, at the age of 70 after a brief but valiant battle with cancer.

Born on October 18, 1955, in Orlando, FL, to Richard and Marcia Mazurowski, John was the youngest of three boys. A military brat, he spent his childhood in many different places, eventually settling in Colorado Springs, where he attended Air Academy High School and went on to become a distinguished member of the United States Air Force Academy Class of 1977.

An exceptional aviator, John graduated at the top of his pilot training class and went on to fly the C-130 Hercules with the storied "Berlin for Lunch Bunch" at Rhein-Main Air Base, Germany. His next assignment took him to Tucson, AZ, where he enchanted the wing commander's daughter, Kaille, who would later become his lifelong copilot. Together they built a life filled with adventure, hopscotching across the U.S. and Germany with their son Liam in tow. After a notable career that included key leadership roles serving as a squadron commander and an operations group commander, John retired from the Air Force in 1998 and returned to Colorado, where he continued to do what he loved, happily flying for Southwest Airlines for the next 22 years. Throughout his military and civilian careers, John earned a reputation as a skilled pilot and a trusted leader, admired and respected by those who worked and flew with him.

Maz was one of the good guys. What he did was not as important as what he was. He was a devoted husband, a compassionate son, a fiercely loyal friend, a gifted mentor and leader. Above all, he was an adoring father who delighted in his son Liam more than life itself. Loved by friends and colleagues alike, he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

John is survived by his wife, Kaille; his son, Liam (Nan); and his brothers, Rick (Mike) and David (Florencia). He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Marcia Mazurowski.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 24, 2026, at 9:30 am at St. Peter Catholic Church in Monument, followed by a 10:00 am funeral mass. A lunch reception will follow in the Parish Ministry Center. Private interment with Full Military Honors will take place at 2:00 pm at the U.S. Air Force Academy.
