Karen Bodmer Obituary

Karen Hildegarde Rondestvedt Bodmer, age 76, of Colorado Springs, went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 26, 2015.

Karen is preceded in death by her parents, Klara & Gilbert Rondestvedt, her sister, Solvei Goreham, and her son Michael Bodmer.

She is survived by her children, Jeff, David and Susan, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Jeff & Valerie Bodmer, children, Michael ((Amanda), Grant and Nolan), Benjamin and Madison of Pueblo West, CO. David and Tammy Bodmer, daughters, Alicia and Casey of Seattle, WA. Susan and Erik Graham, daughter, Dora of Portland, OR.

Karen was born June 28, 1938 in McVille, ND and was raised in Fargo, ND.

Karen graduated from Concordia College (Moorhead, MN) with an English and Music Major in 1960 and married George Bodmer in 1961. They spent the first several years of their married life traveling with the military eventually settling in Colorado Springs, CO in 1969.

Karen stayed at home raising her children for several years before returning to teaching elementary students and music at Divine Redeemer and Buena Vista elementary schools. Karen also enjoyed several years working for America West Airlines which afforded her the opportunity to travel, a great enjoyment of hers. Karen made yearly trips to Seattle and Portland, and regularly found new destinations. Karen retired from teaching in 2010. She continued to share her love of music by teaching private piano and violin students.

Karen was delightful to be with and enjoyed many long held friendships. She was part of a bridge group, luncheon group, several bible study and music groups and relished the time she spent with each friend.

Karen's faith was a central part of her life. She felt a profound love for and from Jesus Christ that gave her great joy and strength to journey through her life. She began each day in prayer and scripture, nourishing herself for the living of her faith, evidenced in her gracious and generous life.

Karen's faith grew richly through her participation at First Presbyterian Church, Colorado Springs. She dearly longed for others to know the love of Christ and to share her reason for joy. To that end, if you would like to make a gift in her honor, please do so to First Presbyterian Church, Music Department.

A memorial service will be held on February 6, 1:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church, 219 E. Bijou St, Colorado Springs, CO 80903.

How I miss my long time friend, Karen! We have known each other for over 60 years as we were neighbors in Fargo North Dakota but went to different schools. Years later we were reunited at a southwestern anthropological bus trip in the early 1980's. Then, once again, we became neighbors at Villa Sierra. I have so many fond memories of my friend Karen and I will cherish them forever.
