Kimberly Macklin Obituary

Kimberly Kay Macklin (West) passed away peacefully at home, with her family by her side, on March 15, 2017 after an 18-month battle with stomach cancer. It would not be accurate to say she "lost" her battle with cancer, because she fought hard and her Army will continue to fight for her.

Kim was born in Colorado Springs on July 24, 1965. Kim was a Colorado Springs native, graduating from Falcon High School in 1983.

Kim married Gene Macklin on April 20, 1984. The couple stayed in Colorado Springs and raised a family. Kim worked for CSSD11 for 23+ years, most recently as a Community Liaison for the Early Childhood Program. She truly enjoyed her job because it allowed her to connect and play with children, which she loved to do, especially when it came to being Mimi to her two grandchildren. Kim also enjoyed scrapbooking, hiking, and Avalanche hockey. She met many friends through these hobbies, touching all of them in amazing and inspiring ways. Kim gave much of herself to everyone who was in her life, including her strength, her joy, her positivity, and her beautiful smile.

Kim is survived by her step-father and step-mother, Walter and Kay Bell; husband, Gene Macklin; daughter, Sandra Allen; son, Joseph Macklin; two grandchildren: Aiden and Scarlette; three brothers: Glenn West, Shawn West, David Bell; one sister - Connie Clark; and numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind many more family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Sandra Willbanks; grandparents, Joseph and Ethel Willbanks; sister, Dawn Bell.

Memorial services will be at 11am on Friday, March 24, 2017 at Sunnyside Christian Church. Reception to follow at American Legion Post 209.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hockey Fights Cancer in Kim's name.

Glad for Facebook that it was able to keep the distance of all us travelers together.
