Ladawn Smith Obituary

Ladawn B. Smith, Jr., age 81, a Colorado Springs resident since 1954, passed away December 16, 2005 in Colorado Springs, CO.  He was born October 31, 1924 in Gray County, Kansas to Ladawn B. and Mildred Daisy (Drake) Smith, Sr. Ladawn married Barbara Ann Brothers  on November 26, 1953 in  Raton, New Mexico. Ladawn was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church.  He was also a member of the Operating Engineers Local #9 and worked on projects at NORAD, Pueblo Dam, Air Force Academy and the runways at Peterson Air Force Base and Fort Carson and had also worked building roads in Saudi Arabia. He is survived by his wife; four children: David Smith and Donita (Robert) Erpelding both of Colorado Springs, CO, Dennis (Tamara) of Penrose, CO and Denise (James) Davis of Bucksport, ME; a surrogate son, Larry G. (Mary Jo) Smith of Florence, CO; 12 grandchildren: D.J. Smith of Brighton, CO, Aurora (George) Umana, Shila (Roy) Mondragon of Canon City, CO., Cliff Jackman of Pensacola, FL, Levi, Serena, and Christina Erpelding all of Colorado Springs, CO and Sabrina, Cortney, Eric, Mary and Heather Davis all of Bucksport, ME; two great-grandchildren: Ina Arko and Christian Mondragon; two sisters:  Leona (Bill) Scantlin of Liberal, KS and Louise Orth of Wray, CO; one brother, Arnold M. Smith of Las Vegas, NV; five sisters-in-law: Mary Hood of Pueblo, CO, Alice Glover of Eads, CO, Jane Steinmetz of Veneta, OR, Margaret Holmes of Buckley, WA and Beatrice Puterbaugh of Colorado Springs, CO.; great niece, Melissa (Shad) Smith and numerous other nieces and nephews.  He was also preceded in death by on sister-in-law, Beryl Daniels. Memorial Mass will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 21, 2005 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2318 N. Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs, CO. Inurnment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Arrangements handled by Funeral and Cremation Care of Colorado. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Pikes Peak Hospice and American Cancer Society.
