Lester Sheets Obituary

Lester (Joe) Joseph Sheets passed away October 9, 2009, at 7:00 a.m. at home after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis which led to lung cancer. Joe was born in Philadelphia, PA, on August 11, 1938, to Emily Sheets. He was raised by the Rose family who took him as a foster child. After serving 26 years in the U.S. Air Force, Joe achieved the status of Master Sergeant. Joe retired in 1981 at Fairchild AFB in Spokane, WA. His career took him to many places in the world. He also served in Vietnam in 1971. Joe also went on to retire from Civil Service after 20 years at Schriever Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, CO, working for the Department of the Air Force. Joe's first marriage was to Beverly Howard. They had 4 children: Ruth Ann, John Robert, Sherry Lynn, and Joann. On June 30, 1973 Joe married Karen Reiswig. They were married 36 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Karen and his beloved dog Daisy; Children: Ruth Ann Wilson, John Robert Sheets, Sherry Lynn Crocker, and Joann Taylor; Grandchildren: Jed Crocker, Wayland Hoggard, and Dakota Sheets. He is also survived by his siblings: Sandy Highland, IL. Georgann Callo, IL, James Smith, NV.; Foster sibling: Jennaro Rose, PA. and a very special God-daughter and niece, Lynda Bonaccorsi, PA; and a host of other relatives and friends.
