With profound sadness, yet eternal gratitude, we announce the peaceful passing of Max Trujillo on June 9, 2024. He recently celebrated his 97th birthday—blessing us all with his loving presence for nearly a century.

Born on May 27, 1927, in Torres, Colorado, to Esequiel and Rose Trujillo, Max was raised in the small town along with six siblings. After completing his education at Primero High School, he answered the patriotic call to serve, enlisting in the United States Navy in 1945. Following his active-duty service, Max continued his commitment to his country as a member of the Naval Reserves. It was during this time that he attended Trinidad Junior College and in Trinidad, met the love of his life, Irene, at the local roller rink.

In 1948, Max and Irene exchanged vows, embarking on a 69-year adventure as husband and wife until Irene's passing in 2018. As devout members of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, where Max served as a Eucharistic Minister, and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Colorado Springs their lives were centered around their love for God and family.

For 30 years, Max worked diligently at the Colorado Springs Supply Company, later lending his talents to the Rocky Mountain Kennel Club, Austin Nevada Car Wash, and Ace Hardware. He was passionate about sports as he coached boys' basketball teams and enjoyed hunting and fly fishing. His skill as an expert fly tyer was unmatched. And his joy knew no bounds when the Denver Nuggets claimed the 2023 NBA Finals championship.

Max is survived by five children, David (Patricia) Trujillo, Rudy (JoAnne) Trujillo, Diana (Christopher) Sanchez, Roxanne (Bob) Stiles, and Candace (Tim) Trujillo-Ohlsen; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; brother, Zeke Trujillo; brother-in-law John Lujan; sister-in-law Marbella Trujillo; and many nieces and nephews.

We invite you to join us in celebrating Max's remarkably long life. A rosary and visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 N. Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs. The funeral mass will take place on Thursday, June 20, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1830 S. Corona Ave., Colorado Springs. Interment will take place at a later date at Pikes Peak National Cemetery, providing a final resting place befitting his service to our nation.

In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Max's memory by making a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a charity he and Irene supported.

While our hearts ache at his departure, we find solace knowing that Max and Irene have been reunited in Heaven. Their legacy of faith, love, and resilience will reverberate through generations.
