Morris Deul Obituary

October 19, 2022

Morris Charles Deul, age 95, passed away at home in Colorado Springs, CO on Wednesday, October 19, 2022.

Morris was born in Waterloo, IL, to Fred and Hulda Deul. He graduated from Waterloo High School and entered the US Navy; being stationed in Guam. He married Audrey Stoker on January 6, 1951 and together they had three children: Michael Deul, Susan Emmerson and Robert Deul.

Morris continued his education thru multiple electrical engineering and business courses, which led him to a career in the Rural Electrical Association in Waterloo, Carlinville and Geneseo, IL. Upon retirement from the REA in 1977, Morris and Audrey purchased 26 tourist cottages in Manitou Springs, CO. It was a perfect fit with his woodworking and mechanical skills and Audrey's banking background. Morris was a "MacGyver" of fix-its through his creative use of tools and materials.

Full retirement came in 1989; remaining in Manitou Springs where he enjoyed fishing at Colorado lakes and reservoirs, watching the Broncos, golfing and traveling. He enriched others' lives, especially his family, thru his love of woodworking. Many creations are cherished by his family and they also remember his story-telling, helping with Girl Scout badges and his special Thanksgiving stuffing.

Throughout his life he volunteered by serving on multiple First United Methodist Church Boards, was a recipient of the Kiwanis Lusche Fellow Award and was recognized in various ways by the Manitou Springs Chamber, City Council and community.

Morris is survived by children: Susan (Steve) Emmerson and Robert (Kirsten Toy Deul) Deul; grandchildren Nicholas (Brooke) Emmerson, Jessica (Mark) Gleason, Madeline (Ryan) Sturms and Thomas Deul; and four great grandchildren Avery and Eliana Emmerson and Claire and Martin Sturms.

Morris lost his wife, Audrey, of 67 years in 2018 and was also preceded in death by his parents, brother Lee Deul and son Michael Deul.

In lieu of flowers, if desired, please make a donation to your favorite charity in memory of Morris. A private celebration of life will be held in Colorado Springs on October 29, 2022 and a memorial service and private inurnment will be held in Geneseo, IL in May, 2023.

I met Morris when he was in his 80s. A friend of mine recommended him to do some electrical work for me.
He really hooked me up with a great job, hard work and extremely low price.
I had him help me on several other jobs I had and loved to pic his brain and get some of his stories. I bought a my first house in 2012 and he helped me quite a bit. At 38 I was envious of the way he could sit Indian style while working on my outlets.
I told him another friend of mine had some work he wanted a hand with and Morris told me he only worked for friends. I took that as quite a compliment as I thought very highly of him and assumed he considered me one of those friends.
It´s been years and I was wondering if he was still around. I now have my feet on the ground and a family and I thought I would look him up and pay a visit. Looks like I missed my chance by a couple years. RIP Morris, great memories and respect for you. What a role model for humanity.
