Nancy Lou (Scheid) Ickes passed away on August 4, 2025 in Colorado Springs. She was born February 1, 1946 to Manual and Margaret (Hilgenberg) Scheid on her family's farm in Prospect Valley, Colorado. Nancy was the second youngest of 8 children.
Nancy attended Prospect Valley Elementary, Weld Central High School, Western State College, Adams State College, University of Northern Colorado, and University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.
Nancy met her husband, Bill Ickes, at Western State College. They were married June 8, 1968 in Keenesburg, CO. Nancy and Bill lived in Hudson while he finished his degree at UNC and she taught first grade. They moved to Saguache, CO where she taught special education.
They moved to Colorado Springs in 1972 where they raised their two children, Michelle and Robert. In Colorado Springs she worked for Kaman Sciences, ITT, Honeywell and Boeing in the documents and information services field. She was also a long-standing member and moderator of First Congregational Church in Colorado Springs and continued to be a very active member at the Community Congregational Church in Manitou Springs. She was a devoted Delta Zeta and served as president of Colorado Springs Delta Zeta Alumnae from 2014-2024 and was awarded the Killarney Rose Award in 2011. She served on the board of the Colorado Springs Panhellenic Alumnae group, was awarded the Woman of the Year award in 2012 and was instrumental in bringing the American Girl Fashion Show to Colorado Springs.
Over the years, Nancy meshed family, church, community, work and sorority. Even when overcoming cancer, a knee replacement and other health issues, she continued to help others. Running through all of Nancy's volunteer commitments was the deep love she had for her family. Everything she did reflected her desire to help make a difference in the lives of others.
She leaves behind her husband of 57 years, Bill Ickes, her children Michelle (Robert) Stellick and Robert Ickes, her 3 grandchildren Anna, Emery, and Owen, her brother Paul (Regina) Scheid, sisters Laverne Wallace and Polly (Don) Ferguson, beloved nieces and nephews and their families, and many friends.
Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at 10:00 am at the Community Congregational Church in Manitou Springs followed by a reception in the fellowship hall.
