NONA RAE (GRIMSLEY) SHANER
December 18, 1945 April 21, 2021
Nona Rae Shaner (Grimsley) passed away on April 21, 2021, following a
25-year battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Born to Ray and Kathryn (Lewien) Grimsley on December 18, 1945, in Kansas, Nona moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, with her family at the age of 9, graduating from Palmer High School in 1963.
Nona attended Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado, where she studied business. She met James Frederick Shaner in Colorado Springs where James was stationed in the U.S. Army. They married in 1967 and moved to Detroit, Michigan. They spent most of their marriage in the mid-west, living in Michigan, Ohio and Illinois, where they raised their 4 children.
Nona spent her career in the banking industry as a Branch Manager and Loan Officer. In her free time, she enjoyed bowling, playing bridge and was an avid Chicago Cubs Fan. For many years, Nona was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Colorado Springs, where she volunteered her time as a bookkeeper.
Nona is survived by her 4 children, Angie (Jeff), Ray, Jimmy (Hayley), Tony (Jennifer) and 7 grandchildren, Sophia, Katarina, Isabel, Anthony, McKenna, Alex and Elliot. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband James.
Services will be held Friday, April 30, 2021, at 10 am at Memorial Gardens Cemetery and Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, www.nationalmssociety.org.

Sending my deepest sympathies to the family of Nona Shaner. Nona was one of my good friends when we went to Palmer High School. We were in Pep Club together and
shared a few dates with her and AF Academy cadets. Also attended some of the PHS luncheons. She was a lot of fun and always was so devoted to supporting PHS sports events. It was sad to see her health fail. She will be missed! I have such good memories of her!
