NORMAN ROTH Obituary

Norman John Roth Resident of Moraga Passed away August 2, 2012, at home with his family. Born September 12, 1931, in Fresno, to John George Roth and Marie Giebelhaus Roth. Graduated Fresno High School 1949. PFC, U.S. Army Military Police in Korea, 1952-53. B.A. in Business 1954 from Fresno State College. Registered Securities Representative 1960-2012. Norm is survived by Claire, his loving wife of 51 years, his son Kenneth and daughter-in-law Betsy, and his son Steven. Norm's 52-year career as a stock broker in San Francisco began at J. Barth & Co. and included a 20 year stint with Drexel Burnham Lambert. He was known for his integrity, strong work ethic, and dedication to his clients, many of whom became close friends. Norm was an avid sports fan, especially of the Fresno State Bulldogs and the San Francisco 49ers. As a youth he played basketball and ran track. He and Claire spent their leisure hours on the tennis court and won mixed doubles championships at both the Olympic Club and the Orinda Country Club. Norm was part of several communities in his life, and was a constructive part of each. He was a longtime member of the World Trade and Commonwealth Clubs, and a familiar lunchtime face at Jack's and the Tadich Grill. Most important to Norm was his unceasing dedication as a husband, father, and son. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 21, at 2:00 pm at the Lafayette-Orinda Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent to the Feather River Land Trust (www.frlt.org,) or the Western Sierra Medical Clinic (www.wsmcmed.org).

I was Norm's sales assistant at Drexel for 4 years in the 80's. Now, 30+ years later, I realize he was the best boss I ever worked for: demanding, yes; meticulous, yes; fair, totally. He loved his work and that was infectious. He set the bar high, but when I reached it, nothing was more satisfying. Norm, you taught me a lot! (By the way, he also gave my husband and me a full day's limo service on our wedding day. It doesn't get much better than that.)

Norm was one person I knew I could sit down and talk to. Oh the fun, glorious times we all had together through the Drexel, Burnham years and as we stayed together for many years afterwards as "former shipmates". Norm will be missed in fellowship and in my thoughts.

Claire, norm was my stockbroker for many years. I am from Fresno too. He was a class act, very honest and his advice was always in my best interest I felt. We lunched together on many occasions and I will miss him. He always spoke so highly of you and his family. We lost a great friend,
