Patricia Forrest Obituary

Forrest
Patricia Grace
(Smith) Forrest
November 25, 1925
January 15, 2023

Patricia was a devoted wife, beloved mother of 10 children and grandmother of 10 grandchildren;she passed away at the age of 97 in Colorado Springs, CO.
Patsy was born November 25,1925 in the Bronx, NY, to Harry and Ella Smith. Harry competed as a marathon runner in the 1912 US Olympics in Stockholm Sweden and went on to become a city treasurer. Ella immigrated from Greece as a child, went on to attend Cooper Union City College in NYC and became an artist. Patsy was raised in Long Beach, Long Island, NY with her 4 sisters—Helen Hart, Elizabeth Budge, Joan Gudmandsen, and Diana Osler.
Patsy was a cheerleader at Long Beach High School. With WWII at its height, she graduated early at the age of 16 and began work as a true "Rosie the Riveter" at the Sperry Aircraft Corporation, where she calibrated gyroscopes for bombers. At the war's end, she became a dancer at the well-known Copacabana Night Club in NYC. She inherited her mother's artistic flair and her father's athleticism and Irish American good looks. She met Cadet Jack Forrest at the United States Military Academy at West Point. After his graduation in 1949, they married and went on to have ten children—eight sons and two daughters.
Her beloved husband Lieutenant General (R) Jack Forrest, a former 4th Infantry Division/Fort Carson Commander and Colorado Springs City Council Member, died in 1997 after almost 50 years of marriage. Her dear son James Porter and daughter-in-law, Cecilia Forrest, the loving wife of her son Jack, passed away in 2015 and 2013, respectively.
Pat is survived by her sister Diana Osler and by her seven devoted sons—Scott Forrest, Jack Forrest, Bobby Forrest, Michael Forrest, and his wife Michelle, Billy Forrest, Patrick Forrest, Thomas Forrest, and his wife Sherrie. By her two loving daughters, Diana Forrest Clark, and Buffy Forrest Kolasheski and her husband, Lieutenant General John Kolasheski. By five grandsons—Sean, Brett, Mikey, Nate, and Jack Forrest. By five granddaughters—Kelli Kolasheski Weiss, Emily and Kristin Kolasheski, Kenzie Sodre, and Maddye Wellesley. By three great grandchildren—Grace, Ezra, and Bronx.
Patricia Grace Smith Forrest lived up to her middle name and more. She was a proud Army wife, hoping, worrying, and supporting her family through two wars, moving over 30 times, the mother of ten children and countless cats. She had the unique ability to make every Army quarter a Home. A thrift shop junkie who could turn nothing into something with every treasure she found. A true Patriot who loved her country! She loved cats and tolerated the numerous stray animals we brought home. She loved cake! She loved glitter and sparkles and almost every outfit had to have some sort of rhinestone or sparkle on it. She was known for her warmth and sense of humour. The depth of her love reaches to Heaven. Psalm 23
A memorial for Patricia Forrest will be held at 2pm Saturday February 25th, 2023, at the Pauline Chapel, 2 Park Ave,. Colorado Springs, CO.

Pat was like a second mother to me for the majority of my life. Especially after my own mother died in July of 2003. I was always welcomed to their home with open arms by her and Jack, when he was alive, then by Pat in her subsequent homes. She often introduced me to people as "my other son, Otto." Spending time with her was always a great pleasure, whether alone or in a group setting. We laughed together, a lot, and we cried together during certain sad times. She told me on more than one occasion that every time she talked to me she would learn something new, and I enjoyed sharing my knowledge with her. I loved her very much, and she will remain in my heart and in my mind for the rest of my life. Deepest condolences to the family. Rest in peace, dearest Mutti.
