Raymond Lewis Coddington passed away peacefully on May 6, 2023.
Ray was born September 28, 1936 in Berea, KY. He was raised in orphanages from age eight through high school. He was able to attend Jackson High School in MI where he was reunited with his favorite brother Hank for two years. After high school graduation he enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed at the Air Force Academy. After that he served in many places around the globe.
Ray got his undergraduate and master's degree at CSU in Science. He taught at Irving Jr. High two years, two years at Palmer High School in the IB program. The majority of his teaching years were at Wasson High School. He coached the Cross Country team. After he retired he announced football, soccer games and track events. He did that for many years and so enjoyed that until Parkinson's would not allow it.
He had three brothers and one sister who are all deceased.
Ray has two grown children. Carrie Rains, daughter Brooke/Matt and son Blake/Nicole. A daughter Cathryn Becker, husband Randy. Three daughters Hannah, Hollie/Jared, great grand children Everett and Ava and Hope/Jacob.
Ray married Susan Rice September 8, 1983 in a friends back yard with family and friends. Her children Robyn, Markus (Dylan and Kendra)...Mark, Sonja, (Jackson, Liam and Audrey) were his friends Susie and Ray jogged together and did races, the incline and lots of hiking. He bought her a bright red bike and they rode together a lot, going to Pueblo for breakfast. Ray so enjoyed his annual biking trek with his buddies for a week at a time over mountain passes and camping at night.
His favorite pass time was golf..."It is the perfect game." He got a hole in one at Patty Jewett. His friend Stan Beard led Golf and Grow times that lasted a week. They played golf and took time for reflection and spiritual direction. Ray cherished those times.
His faith was strong and steady. He truly walked his talk. His kindness, gentleness and genuine self were always present.
There will be no formal service but a celebration of his life will be in the near future.

It was my privilege to have Mr. Coddington as my chemistry teacher during my senior year in high school at Wasson. He was not only an excellent teacher, but also a kind, generous, and patient man, and was well liked by a great many students. My condolences to his family and friends.
