Raymond (Ray) Garcia was born in La Junta, Colorado on June 21, 1954. He passed away on December 13, 2021 with his family by his side.

His family lived in Rocky Ford and moved to Colorado Springs in 1962. He attended Lowell Elementary School, South Jr. High, and Palmer High School. He played basketball and wrestled in junior high and was on the football team and the wrestling squad in high school. He graduated from Palmer High School in 1972.

Ray received his Bachelor of Arts degree from UCCS and his Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Denver.

Ray's distinguished career involved the care and welfare of children and families. He worked at the mental health centers in Colorado Springs and Woodland Park, CO. While living on the Western Slope, he was a lead child protection caseworker for DHS in Garfield County. Ray returned to Colorado Springs and was a social worker in District 11 schools then became Director of a Child Placement Agency.

Ray loved the Colorado wilderness and spent many days hunting and fishing. They called him "Ray Fillet" because of his prowess at cleaning fish and leaving no bones. He loved being an outdoorsman and was an avid and accomplished fisherman and hunter.

Familia was always important to Ray. He loved watching football with his brothers Gary and Rick. He loved his family time with his sister Irene Anaya and family get togethers with his nieces & nephews. He enjoyed visiting his cousins in New Mexico.

He married Joan (Joni) Garcia on July 28, 2000 and had shared his life with her for over 31 years. His son, Julio, was the joy of his life and nothing was better than spending the day with Julio. He loved his grandchildren, Aizlin and Mila. He was so happy when they came to visit and so sad when they went home.

Proceeding in his death is his father Ignacio Garcia, his mother, Flora Garcia and his brother, Gary Garcia.
