Sorry to hear that he is a silent key. We knew him quite well, when we lived in Colorado Springs 1978 - 1985. The kids use to love helping him at the Woodland Park Hamfests. Could never remember his new call only his old one. We visited him in 2007 with our daughter along and had a good visit. Will pass along to the rest of the family his departure.

Most people acquainted with Dick knew that he was a great story-teller. A raconteur. Always entertaining.

He was well-known as a licensed radio amateur. That is a hobby he actively pursued for 58 years. In that capacity he was always especially ready and willing to share his knowledge and enthusiasm.

But what most of his radio friends probably did not realize is that Dick was very skilled as radio morse code operator. His on-air skills and sending (also known as a “fist”) were first-class. Both in person and over the radio, he was smooth and a pleasure to listen to.
