Robert Maio Obituary

Robert Joseph Maio, 71, left this earthly plane in La Quinta, California, November 1, 2016, due to pancreatic cancer.

With a heart of gold, Bob was a generous, selfless spirit. He would give away almost as much as he would earn to help others. In the autumn of his career, Bob simplified his life,
surrounding himself with only essentials: people he loved, golf clubs, music, and guitars.

Born September 9, 1945, in Trinidad, Colorado, the third of Mario and Carolyn (Cesario) Maio's five children, Bobby had a firstborn's spirit and seemed to be able to do almost anything. Though he had heart problems, Bob was an athlete, pitching high school baseball and quarterbacking the varsity team. He was one of the first graduating class of the new Cheyenne Mountain High School in 1963 and began his career in the 1960s working for his parents' business, Service Typo-
graphers. A hard-working, dedicated person, he honed his skills in software development and eventually settled in enterprise management, traveling almost weekly toward his career's end.

Bob played a fierce game of tennis, but his favorite sport was golf. He'd find any reason to get a golf club into his hands, which led him to California in September 2013, though he really wanted to live close to his daughters and twin granddaughters, Jenna and Ella.

Music was Bob's passion. In earlier years, he, his brother
Richard, friend KJ, and others performed great songs of the '50s and '60s. Then in the late '90s through late 2000s, he, Leigh, Dave, and friends would cover five decades of music in Saturday afternoon jams. Yet today his guitar is silent, and "The Boxer" has fought his last.

Bob was preceded in death by his father, mother, sister Carol Knutson, brothers Richard and Daniel.

He is survived by his brother Ronald (Valerie), bride Joyce Hoekstra, daughters Kristen Maio and Heather Maio, son-in-law Steve Hinrichs, granddaughters Gabriella and Genevieve, his children's mother Candice Strand, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

I just found Bobs obituary today! I am so deeply sorry to hear of Bobs passing. I considered him a very dear friend. Bob was one of the nicest people I have ever met! I will always treasure the times we spent together & all the phone conversations over the years. The last time I heard from him was to tell me he had gotten married & how very happy he was! My heart goes out to his wife & his family!

It's been many years and memories have faded but I recall Bob Maio being a leader on the sports field at our brand new beautiful High school.
His athletic leadership established a proud tradition and instilled pride in the first students of the new Cheyenne Mountain High School.

Rest In Peace Bob.
