Roberta Lear Obituary

Roberta Dee Lear passed away peacefully at her home in Colorado Springs on June 26, 2015. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Jerrel and sister Mary Gaubatz. Roberta was born to Viola and Richard Neale in La Junta, Colorado on June 27, 1932. She married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life Jerrel W. Lear in 1953. Roberta is survived by her three children: Steven Lear, Linda Lear-Johnson (husband Philip) of Colorado Springs, and Lesa Franks of Littleton (husband Andrew), seven grandchildren: Joshua Lear, Jensson Lear (wife Shanel), Corinne VanVliet (husband Mike), Bryan Johnson, Aaron Franks, Tim Johnson, and Amy Franks, and four great grandchildren: Logan Lear, Lyrika VanVliet, Fayt VanVliet, and Maylen Lear.

Roberta attended the University of Denver, was a member of the Sigma Kappa Sorority and the Majorette Dance Team. She and Jerrel were long time residents of Colorado Springs. Roberta cheered on Jerry's Colorado College Tiger Swim and Football Teams for over 30 years. Jerry's success was a reflection of Roberta's love.

Roberta loved her home and raising her children and grandchildren. She had a passion for painting, pottery, and crafts. She had many friends and enjoyed socializing, playing Canasta, and shopping for antiques.

Roberta suffered from a stroke in 2013 and with constant, loving care from her son, Steven, was able to fight her illness until her passing. Roberta had a kind heart, fun disposition, and unconditional love for her family. She was truly loved and will be greatly missed.

The funeral service will be held at Swan-Law Funeral Directors, Colorado Springs, CO on Thursday July 2nd at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please send a memorial contribution to Pikes Peak Hospice, 2550 Tenderfoot Hill Street, Colorado Spring, CO 80906.

My mother, JoAnn Jenkins, was a classmate and very close friend of Bert's. In my mother's 1947 Diary, Roberta encouraged her to try out for twirling. Roberta was one for 4 years, my mother 3 years.

To Linda, Phil, Bryan, Tim, and the rest of your awesome family - We were so sorry to hear of your mom's passing. Your mom was always so friendly and welcoming, and most impressively such a consistent and solid anchor in your lives. She and your dad shared an impressive love, and clearly taught you all that family comes first. They left a great legacy in your family. Much love to you all, and may happy memories surround you during this time of loss. The Nalicks

We remember our neighbor Roberta with fondness. In our home we have, and treasure, several ceramic items she taught our daughters to make. Our thoughts are with her family.

Some of my favorite childhood memories are of the family get- togethers we had at Jerry and Roberta's house. She will be deeply missed.

Ms. Lear was a wonderful lady. She attended all the swimming and diving events over the years that Jerry was the coach. I will remember her as kind, supportive, and enthusiastic with all the swimmers and divers at CC. I wish her family well.

To the Lear family I extend my sympathy. I have many fond memories of Roberta from First United Methodist Church and the long-lasting Canasta Club.

Dear Steven, Linda and Lesa,
Byron's brother, Don, called this morning to let us know of your mother's passing and we would like to extend our heartfelt sympathies to each of you and your families. I first met Roberta shortly after Byron & I were married over 50 years ago and throughout the years that followed we always looked forward to shared family gatherings. She was both kind, gracious and always fun to be around, as was your father. They were both very special people. I know she will be greatly missed by the many who's lives she has touched throughout her lifetime and especially by the many family members who she loved and cared for so deeply. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you during this time of loss. With sincere sympathy, Gail and Byron Brookhart and family

We are thinking of you all during this time of loss. Roberta was always full of life and shared her beautiful smile with us whenever she saw us in the neighborhood. There was always a twinkle in her eye and a kind word on her lips. Roberta...you will be missed. To Bryan, Tim, Phil and Sweet...sweet Linda....we are sending you hugs so you can share your sorrow.
