I remember the first time I saw Sheila, it was in 1991, when I arrived in Colorado Springs … some years ago. She had a big warm smile that helped me overcome my shyness and allowed the first contact between us, between two different cultures. Generosity was the first of her features. She liked to share the knowledge of her country and despite my poor English, we were able to discuss together and exchanged our views. I will never forget her kindness.
To hear about her loss is a shock. Kim, Kimberlee, Kristian and Katherine, my thoughts are with you.

From another old high school/college buddy...so sad to hear this news. Obviously Sheila continued as we knew her back then, a life of fun, service, devotion, etc. I hope my last moments as reflected in her final facebook postings will be similar...love and service for her family and holiday greetings to all her facebook followers. She passed on a very high note!

I was so saddened to hear (just today) about Sheila. We knew each other from Kearns High-she was a year ahead of me, but we were great friends. For some reason the two of us had the nickname of "party poopers" which we thought was hilarious. Please know how much she was loved by everyone. I am so sorry..

Sheila was a special friend. Her gift of bringing out the best in her friends made us feel like we could do anything. A very special memory...Sheila and Kim coming to Nauvoo while we were on our mission and the wonderful time we shared speaking about that sacred place. Top of the Peak was a great learning experience and a growing time, thanks to the encouragement and love of this special friend. Our love to her precious family.

Dear Kim and family,
We were very saddened by the news of Sheila's passing. She gave so much to this world with her music, sense of humor, laughter and friendship. We will always cherish the times we spent together. Even if we hadn't seen each other much lately, we count you both as great friends. When we did see each other it was as if no time had passed! We send our love and support to you and yours while you go through this sad time. Sheila is looking down at us from Heaven and smiling.

Sheila Cope, you were quite an inspiration to many people. Your zest for life and the enthusiasm you had for music and fun will be missed. Your grandchildren will definitely miss their grandma. Heaven now is a little more "joyous" place with you there. We will miss you greatly.

I met this talented, funny, and giving lady when she and Kim were living in St. Louis. I sang with her in a "just for fun" quartet with three other Moms. She joined the River Blenders Chorus and shared her humor and talent with the entire chorus. We have kept in touch over the past 20+ years. My heart aches for the family and friends she leaves behind, but I think she is directing and judging all the Sweet Adelines in that heavenly chorus.

Kim, Sheila is a great loss to all of us - but especially to you. It is at these times that great comfort comes in understanding that this is just act 2 of a 3 act play - and the best is yet to come. We look forward to seeing you at the graveside service in Salt Lake City next week.

It still seems as a dream & really bad joke that Sheila can be gone. I have sat the past several days thinking about the years I have known her in Velvet Hills Chorus as well as my director at the Top of the Peak chorus.
She used to make all 4 parts of our learning tapes, Top of the Peak, and trust me there were some laughs. Then she would laugh and say "OK.... I'm a lead, live with it!!!"
More recently, when any of the ladies in chorus or spouses had medical issues, Sheila was always the one to organize getting 3 meals a day to that persons home.
They say God takes the good ones.... that can't be more true in the case of Sheila passing far too young. She was a wonderful matron to your family and the proudest Grandma ever. We'll miss her beyond words and be listening for the joyful music she will send our way from heaven.

I'm stunned and saddened by the loss of Sheila ... such a vibrant lady. I got to know her when we were both in the Sweet Adelines Arrangers' Program. She'd come back to our room and lament the "red marks" on her assigned arrangement (she had such a drive to excel). I would remind her that all of us lived through the "red marks"! I was happy for her when the arranging finally clicked and when she was accepted to the judging program. I also had the pleasure of coaching one of her quartets. Any suggestion put forth was quickly assimilated. I loved her voice and the emotion she conveyed in a song; her audiences were the recipient of the joy that came through in her singing! Two things I will always remember about Sheila: her wonderful sense of humor/playfulness - and the kindness with which she always treated me. I loved her for it. Please accept my heartfelt condolences.

Knowing that the Lord takes us home when our work here is done is small consolation for the hole that people like Sheila leave behind. The bright spot is the legacy she leaves behind - first and foremost in her family and then with the music that we all were allowed to share with her. Our prayer for you is that you will be able to celebrate that legacy with joy very soon.

She taught me guitar sitting in her front yard back in Kearns. I watched her bring Bloody Mary to life is South Pacific. I enjoyed her singing, laughter and smiles, until she headed for Europe and I to Wisconsin. I am so sorry for those close to her. As I am far away and yet still feel the loss. I'm sure she is already a member of some choir in heaven

Dearest Kim and Family,
I was truly shocked at your lost of Sheila. She will be greatly missed by me, and my girls. Jennifer called me to let me know. I have nothing but fond memories of Sheila and the love she shared with me and my family when I lived there in the Springs. She is truly one of the few I truly miss when I moved back to Calif. My heart goes out to all of you, and my thoughts and prayers are with you. I will always miss her warm heart and beautiful smile. Hugs to the whole family.

Dear Cope Family: I am so sorry and saddened for your loss. Sheila has been a very special part of my Sweet Adelines experience. I have had the pleasure and honor of standing next to Sheila on the risers for the last couple of years and she has always made me smile and helped me to become a better vocalist.
A few months ago, she sent me a very sweet, loving note telling me how much she loved and appreciated me. I've had that note on my refridgerator since I got it, and I will always treasure it.
She will be greatly missed by all of us. Velvet Hills Chorus and all Sweet Adelines have become so much richer by having had her in our lives.
I am so sorry that I will not be able to attend her funeral service, as I am working out of town and can not get the time off. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to lessen your pain.
Sincerely, Patti Kirkwood
