Stephen Alvin Barela, 64, passed away November 1, 2021 in his home town Colorado Springs, CO. He is preceded in death by his parents Bennie and Eufelia (Martinez) Barela, and brother, Gasper Barela.
Steve is survived by his wife, Ida Vasquez-Barela; His children Felice (Jerome) Vigil, Stephen C. Barela, Vincent (Willie) Barela, and Miranda (Israel) Vera-Hermosillo; His stepchildren Leona (Eric) Morales, Lucas (Asbury) Lujan and Louie Lujan; 13 grandchildren, and one great granddaughter; His siblings, Sam (Ventura) Barela, Eileen (Danny) Baracz, Fred (Joan) Barela, Jean Quintana, Betty Medina, and Tina (Joe) Saliba; and multiple nieces and nephews.
He attended Palmer High School and furthered his education attending the University of Colorado at Boulder. Steve worked for many years in Civil Service in various positions at the United States Air Force Academy.
Steve had an unwavering pride for his children. His hobbies included watching movies, riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles, playing softball, and watching NFL football, especially his favorite team, the Denver Broncos. If he wasn't at home watching football or movies, he enjoyed taking peaceful drives through the mountains with Ida and their dog Charli. He will be remembered as an extremely hard worker who had a witty sense of humor. Steve will be deeply missed as he was a loving husband, great friend, loyal confidant and loved by many.
On Thursday November 11, 2021, there will be a Viewing from 4-6 PM followed by a Rosary at 6:00 PM. The Memorial Service will be on Friday November 12, 2021, at 11:00 AM. Both events will be held at The Springs Funeral Services- North at 6575 Oakwood Blvd., C/S, CO 80923. A reception for Steve's celebration of life will immediately follow the Memorial service at 1:00 PM at Springs Adventist Academy Gymnasium, 5410 Palmer Park Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO 80915.

To the Barela family, I am so very sorry for your loss. To Steve, I will truly miss you. Memory of your pitching endeavors on Mitch's softball team will be a memory I will truly cherish. Steve's teamates were mostly less than half his age, yet he was the ace on the pitching staff. Thank you Steve for letting us be a part of your life. Fitz

Barela my heart goes to whole family and sending huge prayers in time need! Will miss most that Wit sense humor he had and also be fair boss. You will be missed also for good sports talks as well.
