William Edgar Battin, age 91, passed away on November 16th, 2021, at UC Health Memorial Hospital in his hometown of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
He was born to Meldon and Elizabeth Battin, on June 7th 1930 in Colorado Springs. He spent his childhood growing up in Colorado Springs and Canon City where he and his siblings would harvest raspberries on his family's farm to take to town to sell. After high school he worked at his uncle's dairy, flying ice cream from Colorado Springs to Canon City. He enlisted in the Air Force at age of 20. While stationed in England, he met the love of his life Jean. They spent 67 happy years together raising their four children, with many adventures stationed in England, Panama, Nebraska, California, and the Azores until finally retiring from the Air Force after 22 years and settling again in Colorado Springs. After leaving the air force, he became a master gardener and completed his BA in Letters Arts and Sciences at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs in 1982. While there he aided in securing funds for the installment of the Carillon Bells in the clock tower at UCCS which you can still hear today.
William loved fly fishing and camping and was involved in many clubs, such as the "Rotary Club", the "Gold Prospectors of Colorado" and many others. He never lost the love of travel and adventure, and always enjoyed a great cup of coffee while exploring.
William is survived by his beautiful wife, Jean, his son Michael, his daughter Tania, his daughter Christine, his son Mark and wife Bonnie, his four grandchildren, Brian, Kristen, Ryan and Jason and his two great grandchildren, Kylan and Lila.
He was preceded in death by his parents Meldon and Elizabeth, his brother Harold, his sisters Betty and Elsie, and his grandson Anthony.
