William Proctor Obituary

William Proctor, resident of Lithia Springs GA and former resident of Colorado Springs, died peacefully in GA Jan 12th. He was still raking leaves, driving for donuts and leading family prayers at the age of 92. William was born in Clarksville Texas on July 31 1918. He was raised on a share cropper's farm and was a high school football star. He was called to active duty in Nov 1940 and was commissioned in 1942. In 1943 he married Stella Gorowski before shipping out to the European Theater. During WWII William received the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star and one of his most prized awards, The Combat Infantryman's Badge. During his 26+ years of service they were assigned in Europe, the United States and in the Far East retiring in Colorado Springs CO. Upon retirement from the Army William, William was employed by the Civil Service. In 1972 his wife Stella died. In 1973 he married Gwen Abrahams and the newlyweds soon moved to Atlanta GA. After retiring from the Civil Service, William spent his retirement years RV'ing with Gwen and developing numerous friends where ever they went. In his last years, ‘Wild Bill' enjoyed yard work, visiting his buddies at the local hardware store and making frequent visits to his favorite doughnut stores around Atlanta. William is survived by his wife Gwen, 6 children, 11 grand children and a growing number of great grand children. He is remembered for his sage advice, ‘Army ways', reliable presence and especially for doting over Gwen. A beloved husband and father, we remember his determination, storytelling and ability to always see a glass half full. His memorial will be held in the spring, at his home in Lithia Springs GA, at a ‘Leaf Raking Party' attended by his extended family and large circle of friends.
