Winifred Christian Obituary
grandmother, sister and aunt departed this life on March 15, 2017 at the age of 74.
Winifred was born on September 28, 1942 in Detroit,
Michigan to the union of the late Aaron and Dorothy Taylor.
Winifred (Tootsie) attended elementary and middle schools in Beggs, Oklahoma, and graduated from Palmer High School in Colorado Springs in 1961. Tootsie also attended beauty school in Tulsa, OK., and became a licensed beautician.
After moving back to Colorado Springs, she met her future husband, William Gerald Christian in September of 1963 and married in February of 1967.
Tootsie enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Colorado Springs Hurricanes and Thunderettes Bowling Club, and an avid reader. Tootsie was also one of the original members of the Colorado Springs Bowling Senate.
Winifred (Tootsie) leaves to cherish her memories her
husband of 50 years, William Gerald Christian; her mother, Dorothy Jean Taylor of Colorado Springs; a daughter, Sylvia Elaine Taylor-Simpson (Gary) of Colorado Springs; a son William Gerald Christian Jr.; a brother, Aaron Taylor (Diane); two sisters, Reba Johnson and Linda Merritt both of Detroit, MI; eight grandchildren, Kayden, Carissa, Yazmin, Nyla,
Corvin, Drayas, Jayquan and Alexis all of Colorado Springs; three nieces, one nephew and a host of relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Aaron; two
brothers, Kenneth and Marshall Merritt; and one sister, Sylvia Merritt.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 21 from 4 - 7 pm at Angelus Chapel Funeral Directors. A service will be held on Wednesday, March 22 at 1:00 pm at Angelus Chapel Funeral Directors (1104 S. Circle Dr.). A repast will be held at the Elks Lodge on the corner of Cimarron and Wahsatch
following burial.
