Captain Glenn Evans Shrader, United States Navy (Retired), passed peacefully into the loving care of our Lord on May 4, 2025. He now rejoins his beloved wife, June Self Shrader, who preceded him in death on May 17, 2006. True partners in life and love, they will be laid to rest together at Arlington National Cemetery.
Born with an abiding sense of duty and patriotism, Glenn dedicated 30 years to honorable and distinguished service in the U.S. Navy. His career included ten years of sea duty and three tours in Vietnam. Among his many assignments, he served as Executive Officer of the USS Putnam (DD-757), Commanding Officer of the USS Henderson (DD-785), and Executive Assistant and Naval Aide to the Undersecretary of the Navy for Manpower and Reserve Affairs. He retired in June 1987 at the rank of Captain (O-6), leaving a legacy of leadership, integrity, and selfless service.
Glenn was a loyal officer, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a man of quiet faith and strength. He met June, the love of his life, at a Mills College dance during his early Navy days. That serendipitous meeting blossomed into more than 47 years of marriage, a family rooted in love, and a life of shared service and sacrifice.
He is survived by his son, Glenn Charles Shrader of San Francisco, California; son, David Michael Shrader, and daughter-in-law, Meleise Shrader, of Campobello, South Carolina; grandson, Jonah Michael Shrader of Spartanburg, South Carolina; granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Shrader of Campobello, South Carolina; and daughter, Dawn Michele Shrader of Fort Mill, South Carolina.
Glenn's legacy is one of steadfast love for his family, his country, and the many friends whose lives he touched. His children and grandchildren will always cherish his guidance, his warmth, and the heartfelt pride with which he expressed his love.
The Shrader family is deeply grateful for the support and kindness extended during this time and finds peace in knowing that Glenn is reunited with June, surely preparing once again a place of comfort and love for those who follow.
A memorial service to honor Glenn's life will be held on June 14, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. at Broadmoor Community Church, 315 Lake Ave, Colorado Springs, CO 80906.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Glenn's memory to the Alzheimer's Association or a veterans' organization of your choice.
