Our beloved David Ellsworth, 59, has joined his Daddy, Mother and sister in heaven. He won a valiant battle over cancer but passed away, with his family and friends at his side, February 6, 2026, in Colorado Springs, following other health complications.
Dave was born August 6, 1966, and grew up in
Ogden, Utah, to Donald and Mary Ellsworth. He had a brother Gary, and a sister Cindy. He graduated from Canyon View School in 1987. While at school, he met two great friends, Tommy Haymes (Tommy always had Dave's back) and Shauna Nichols ("We kissed!"). Together, they "breezed" through classes, learned many life skills, excelled in sports, and took many mischievous adventures. Dave particularly liked projects building things in classes, jumping on the trampoline, playing football, running track, and singing.
Following graduation from Canyon View, Dave continued to live with his Daddy and Mother. His Mother kept his reading, spelling, and math skills very sharp. He stayed busy by participating in Special Olympics. He loved basketball (he did not like to dribble but made great passes and shots – "nothing but net!"), swimming, and track ("I win a lot of medals!"). But his favorite sport was bowling (he had a wicked hook, many high scores, and often said "I have a lot of trophies!"). He also took his singing talents to another level by doing Karaoke, and singing to anybody/everybody that would listen (he knew everybody's face, had difficulty remembering names, but knew the lyrics to many, many, many songs).
He was an adventurer! Dave survived riding motorcycles, hiking (often very steep trails), and skiing with his brother. He rode horses (walking or trotting, "no galloping!!"), went whitewater rafting, and explored Alaska and the western United States with his sister and nephew, Dustin. He was fearless when flying with his Daddy, the pilot, and could not get enough stalls in the plane ("MY STOMACH IS IN MY MOUTH—DO IT AGAIN, DADDY, DO IT AGAIN!!!). He moved to Colorado Springs in 2018 and had many new adventures with the Colorado Springs Therapeutic Recreation Center, Stellar Care, Crossfire Ministries, Resonate Music and the Griffiths Center to experience new activities and meet many more people.
His greatest strength was his friendly personality. His last, greatest adventures were daily walks while throwing footballs, or softballs, or kicking soccer balls (his favorite) and talking to everybody in the neighborhood, literally, as if they were long, lost friends. He will be missed by many people.
David is survived by his brother, Gary, sister-in-law, Toni, his nephews Tyler and Dustin, and his niece, Hillary.
Dave was preceded in death by his father, Donald, mother, Mary, and sister Cindy.
