Finlay Wallace Obituary

Finlay Bruce Wallace, 63, passed away to join our Lord on

1-19-2015.Born 6-2-1951, in San Angelo TX. His father, Finlay Blair, was stationed there with the Air Force for fighter pilot training.

In 1955, after the passing of his father, Lucille Marie Wallace brought her family back to Colorado Springs to raise Finlay and his sister Charlene.

Finlay's family was small, but love always surrounded Finlay. Finlay's maternal grandparents were George and Laura Wertz who lived in Montana.. Finlay grew up close to his grandparents, Arthur and Margaret Wallace, which led to many wonderful memories in the family cabin at Vicksburg. Finlay enjoyed fishing and 'jeeping' with his grandfather.

Finlay graduated 1969 from Cheyenne Mountain High School.

Finlay was accepted to the Air Force Academy, planning to follow in his father's footsteps, flying jets. Slightly too tall to qualify for pilot training, he decided to attend Colorado University Boulder.

Finlay was a man that had the "need for speed". Finlay raced motorcycles in the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, Pro Moto-Cross, and Speedway. His racing nickname was "Flying Finn". Finlay placed 2nd in Division I National Speedway.

Finlay became a heavy equipment operator while living in Breckenridge for 18years. Thank Finlay for clearing the roads in winter. He was a hard worker at whatever job he had.

Finlay joined Interstate Highway Construction and helped build DIA. He worked for IHC for 20 years. Finlay could 'fix anything'.

Finlay will be missed by all that were fortunate to have been touched by his friendship. Finlay was generous, kind, hard-working, stubborn, and loved.

Finlay is survived by his sister, Charlene Aven.

I consider myself very fortunate to have been able to call Finlay a friend, and was greatly saddened to hear of his passing. He was one of the most gregarious and generous people I have known. The Sixties and Seventies would not have been nearly as fun, adventurous, and indulgent without him. Rest easy, my friend, you will be sorely missed.

Finlay, was a close friend through high school, and we were roomates in Boulder for two years. We also spent a lot of time together in Breckenridge years ago, we had some wild and fun times. He a always had the fastest car or dirt bike. I will miss him greatly.

Some of my best childhood memories are of the great times I had with Finlay. We were friends from about the age of 8. We learned to ride motorcycles together and raced motocross together. Although we had gone down different paths later in life, I will always remember him as a great friend.

I just wanted to say that Finlay was one of the most friendly People I ever Knew. We raced moto cross on Husky's and CZ's back in the day. He then went on too race speedway and was a champion at that as well. I will always chedrish the fond memories I have of him.

I was in the same graduating class at Cheyenne - and recognized him immediately from the photo (he has a very distinctive smile). He was easy to get along with, and had a car that could go from 0 to 60 very quickly - he liked to see if he could pin us in the seats going up Skyway Blvd. I always wondered what happened to Bruce, and it sounds as if he had fun (again, the smile). Please accept my deepest condolences for your family's loss.
