Glenna born April 28, 1934, in Pueblo, Colorado, to Earl and Bertha Cissna Barton, Glenna lived in Pueblo, Sterling, Wray and Denver, CO; Little Rock, AR; St Louis, MO; Collinsville, IL; Amache, CO; Anderson Ranch Dam, ID; Kingman, AZ: Davis Dam, AZ: and Loveland, CO, all prior to WW2.
Glenna graduated from Loveland High School and attended Colorado A&M in Fort Collins where she met her future husband, Leland Gilbert. After Lee graduated from Colorado A&M in Engineering, they were married March 25, 1956, in Loveland, Colorado, and moved to the Quad-cities where Lee began his engineering career with John Deere in Moline, Illinois. Their sons Bryan and Alan were born during the six years there before Lee transferred to John Deere R&D Center in Cedar Falls, Iowa, where daughter Cherie was born. In 1964, Lee transferred to the Dubuque, Iowa, John Deere Facility.
The summer of 1968, Lee and Glenna attended a life-changing Christian discipleship conference hosted by The Navigators, a non-denominational Christian ministry in Colorado. The Lord sent Lee to France via John Deere in 1969. A year later, Lee and Glenna and kids moved to Germany where Lee chose to leave Deere to serve with The Navigator military ministry. Lee returned to John Deere in Cedar Falls, Iowa, in 1976 and in 1985 chose an early retirement to again minister with The Navigators fulltime in Colorado Springs at Glen Eyrie Conference Center and at Fort Carson.
Lee and Glenna loved hosting people in their home and serving people in the community. As a couple, they served their community in numerous ways and became active in the Republican Party in the early 2000s. Glenna continued to live in Colorado Springs after Lee's death in 2020 until April 2024, when she moved to Lubbock to be closer to family.
Glenna enjoyed corresponding with long-time friends, gardening, creating dried flower arrangements, traveling, and sharing her faith in Jesus Christ with most everyone she met. Lee & Glenna were active members of First Presbyterian Church Colorado Springs and served there in various capacities.
Glenna was a devoted wife and homemaker and mother to her children! Lee and Glenna were very intentional in raising their children in a Christ-Centered home and making God's word a part of daily life.
Glenna was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Lee. She is survived by her son Bryan (Martha) of Harrisonville, Missouri, her son Alan (Robyn) of Tipton, Iowa, her daughter Cherie (Dug) McAlpine of Lubbock, Texas, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
