James E. vanTeylingen Obituary

Our loving, kind and tough husband, Dad and "Gampoo" left this earth on 10/27/2015, after losing his courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. His devoted family members were all holding him as his spirit passed back home to God. Those of us lucky enough to have known him in this life are devastated and feel a tremendous void without him.

Jim was born in Colorado Springs (as were his parents Pete and Sylvia (Hartsock) vanTeylingen. He graduated from Wasson in 1962, attended Mesa Junior College and married his high school sweetheart (Judy Kuhns) in 1963. Jim retired from Colorado Springs Utilities (Resource and Recovery Superintendent at the Hannah Ranch) after more than thirty years. For the past 18 years, he worked as a Marshal at Springs Ranch Golf Club. For three years, he coached YAL Football, proving to be an excellent coach. His inquisitive mind, and love of Colorado, led him and the family on many adventures. He was always looking for what was down that road or over that hill. He strived to learn as much as he could about his beautiful Colorado. He was in awe of the earth, fascinated with geology, history, and Colorado mountain towns. Most of the time he could be found golfing or watching sports. He especially loved watching his children and grandchildren's activities. He was the "Best Gampoo in the world".

Jim is survived by his wife of 52 years Judy (Kuhns) vanTeylingen, his son Scott (Rene); daughters Lolly (Mike Offutt) and Devra(Warren Mathews), his grandchildren Rika Evans, Tyler vanTeylingen, Deja Garnett, Mason and Alysha Offutt, and Wyatt & Walker Mathews. Also survived by brothers-in-law Bill (Karen) and John (Alice) Kuhns and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Oh, and his best buddy, Yorkie-Peekie-Poo Sinthya. He was preceded in death by his parents Pete and Sylvia, brother Harry, granddaughter Rhianna vanTeylingen, brother-in-law Bob and mother-in-law Virginia Kuhns.

His spirit is right here with us, now and forever.

When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight. Kahlil Gibran

I think of Uncle Jimmy and have so many memories. My Dad and him coming back from golfing on hot afternoons in Canon City. Uncle Jim always with a quick smile and that half shake of his head at some remark made. He was a rock for me when my Dad (Harry) passed. I will miss him .
