Luella Elstun Obituary

Elstun
Luella G Elstun
September 23, 1931
June 12, 2023

Luella G Elstun was born to Carl and Nancy Karns on September 23, 1931, in Bucklin, Kansas and passed away peacefully on June 12, 2023, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was always proud to be born a Hatfield and she fought just like one until the end.
Luella was born on a farm in Ford County, KS. The family moved to Sterling, KS when she was in elementary school, and she graduated from Sterling High School. It was there she learned the most beautiful penmanship (family, friends and pen pals have enjoyed her handwritten notes over the years). After graduation, she married and had three children. Luella's parents moved to Colorado Springs in 1951 where Luella and the kids would soon follow and move into the house that she lived in until March of this year. It became a home base for her growing family. Luella has always been very proud of her family and the support she has given and received from them.
Luella was very involved in East United Methodist Church. She was instrumental in running the church, visiting shut-ins, helping with the operation of the church and later became the Lay Leader. Luella was also a representative of the Methodist conference, attended national meetings, and even spoke at a conference attended by over 400 women in California. Eventually, Luella was asked to lead the youth group of the church. She is fondly remembered by the youth that she led, it was something Luella was delighted to be a part of and very proud of the youth she served. Her work with the church and all the people involved were her most gratifying accomplishments. She is and will be missed by her family and her many friends in the church. May she fly with the Angels.
She is survived by her children Sharon Nemeth, Ron Elstun (Michelle) and Gary Elstun (Barb); grandchildren Chrissie Nemeth, Michael Nemeth (Camie), Kari Mullis (Sam), Catie Weitzel (Erik), Kyle Elstun, Maren Mima (Mike) and Carlye Elstun; great-grandchildren Blake Nemeth, Kaden Mima, Grant Nemeth, Amelia Mullis, Ryann Nemeth, Walker Weitzel, James Mullis and Weston Weitzel. She also leaves behind many friends and loved ones that have always known her as "Grandma Luella".
Funeral services will be on Saturday, June 24th at East United Methodist Church at 2:00pm. All are welcome to help us celebrate her amazing life. A memorial fund has been set up in her name at East United Methodist Church to support the causes closest to her heart.

Luella was the youth leader at East UMC when our boys were young. She was so kind and welcoming to us. I so appreciated all she did directly and indirectly with the youth during those years. Gary ~ I send sincere condolences to you.

So sorry to receive this news. What a strong role model she was for me as a woman and a single mother raising her kids as a single mother. Always had time when I would stop be with Sharon- and loved her snickerdoodles!
May you be comforted by your warmest memories

My sister Peg captured in her words Luella´s grand friendship with our Mom, Mary Watkins, and consequently our whole family! She helped make Moms 80th surprise birthday party an incredible highlight in all of our lives. She regularly visited Mom when Mom was in the nursing home, alway upbeat, cheerful yet down to earth. We all loved LuellaWarm regards to the whole family. Deb Farkas
