Freddie, age 78, passed away on January 18, 2025. He was a resident of Colorado Springs, CO, for 60 years and was formerly a resident of Rush, CO. He was a Texaco retailer for 20 years.
Freddie was born on June 19, 1946, to Raymond Kunau and Olive (Mosher) Kunau in Colorado Springs, CO. On February 3, 1968, he married Linda Messler in Colorado Springs, CO, at the First United Methodist Church.
Freddie was fond of traveling to national parks, Hawaii and Mexico. He tried scuba diving in Mexico and enjoyed collecting many of his favorite things on vacations.
He also enjoyed travelling in his motor home to take his daughters skiing and to swim in Glenwood Springs, CO, with his family. He had an appreciation for landscaping and caring for his homes. He enjoyed the paintings of Thomas Kinkaid and Maija. He was a member of Kendrick Bible Church, Rush, CO, and attended Edison School in Rush, CO, and Southern Colorado State College in Pueblo, CO, graduating in 1966. He served in the United States Marine Corps for 2 years and was an aircraft mechanic working on F4's at El Toro near Irvine, CA. He was also stationed in Millington, TN. He and his wife lived in Santa Ana, CA, and had their first daughter Donna.
Freddie was a hard worker and grew up helping his father and mother on a farm/ranch in Rush, CO. He enjoyed his career as a Texaco retailer for 20 years and received awards for high volume gas sales. He loved to laugh and joke with people and they always enjoyed Fred in return.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda; his daughter, Donna Lynn; his siblings, Kathryn Jones and Diana Baker; and his granddaughter, Brooke. He was preceded in death by his parents; his younger daughter, Julie Ann; and his sister, Pauline Beckett.
A visitation will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, January 30, at the Shrine of Remembrance, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd. Colorado Springs, CO. A funeral service will follow at 2:00pm. Linda, Mary and I were so shocked to hear that Fred had passed . He was a man that loved you and all his family and friends. I worked for him part time and I remember him always talking care of his customers first and running to the pumps, washing windshields, Checking oil and running to the cash register. He taught me about how important customer service was. Mary and I will truly miss our dear friend and you and Donna are in our prayers . Hope to see you soon .

Fred was my first boss right out of high school in 1983. He employed a few of us RHS grads and we loved working for him. What a wonderful man he was. I have so many great memories of working for Fred and Linda and with his girls too. He was kind, generous and so much fun. He was truly one of a kind. He will be missed. All my prayers and love to Linda and Donna. May he rest in peace.

Freddie took care of my fathers cars at Texaco for many many years. He even bought our 1969 Camaro to give to his daughter! We appreciated all his hard work and send our very deepest condolences to the Kunau family. Your Dad was a good man!
