Ian Doig Obituary

Ian R. Doig, 22, passed away June 19, 2009, in Colorado Springs, CO. A loving and compassionate son, Ian is now at peace. Ian was born March 13, 1987, in Park Ridge, Ill., to Bob and Marilyn Doig and moved to Colorado Springs in 1997. He quickly became involved in youth hockey and was an accomplished goalie for several teams and made many friends through the sport. Ian graduated from Cheyenne Mountain High School in 2005. He loved snowboarding, hacky sack and playing the guitar. Ian also had a special place in his heart for animals, especially his dog, Juno. Ian was a student of philosophy, a movie buff and a fan of stand-up comedy. And he never forgot his Chicago roots, coveting his Chicago Blackhawks. Ian is survived by his parents, brothers Jordan and Mike, and paternal grandmother Myra Doig. He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents John and Mary Brock and paternal grandfather Robert T.G. Doig. Ian was blessed with a very large family who loved him dearly including 13 aunts, 14 uncles and 33 first cousins. He also will be missed by the many friends who enriched his life. There will be a wake from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Cappadona Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will take place at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at St. Paul Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Ian's name to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, or the LEAD Foundation.

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

July 4, 2009

What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch, we may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived. And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget.

I have seen many variations of this narrative to describe the passing of a loved one. I hope you enjoy it.

The Ship

A ship sails and I stand watching till it fades on the horizon and someone at my side says it is gone.
But it is only gone from my sight. It is still just as large and glorious now as when I last saw it. The diminished size and total loss from my sight is only in me, for at that same moment when I lose sight, there are others who are watching the ship come over their horizon, excited and celebrating a new ship arriving.

Dear Bob, Marilyn, Jordan and Michael:

Words cannot express how sad we were to hear about Ian's passing. He will forever live in our hearts as the happy-go-lucky young boy running with Allan in our backyard, playing hockey in our cul-de-sac, countless sleepovers and playing "you got teen spirit" on the guitar. They were the best of friends and distance did not affect the way the felt about each other. It was evident when they got together every time you came back to Chicago. May the love and support of your friends sustain you in these most difficult time.
You are and will remain in our prayers.

Love, The Milan Family

Please accept my heartfelt sympathy for your loss. May you draw comfort from our Heavenly Father in the words at 2nd Corinth. 1:3 & 4, "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those in any sort of tribulation through the comfort with which we ourselves are being comforted by God." Dear Bob & Marilyn, Mike and Jordan,

Our thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. May your memories bring you comfort.
I have always said that no parent should have to attend their child's funeral. I don't know God's plan that led to this tragedy, but we will find out when we are with Ian later.

I've known Ian since high school, we were very close and he was by far the funniest person I've ever met! Everyone enjoyed his guitar playing and that infectious laugh. He was very talented and could make anyone smile. He must have went through 15 hacky-sacks a week back in the day! And I remember driving with him the first day he received his license..I will always cherish the memories and he will be missed dearly by everyone who knew him.

June 23, 2009

Dear Marilyn, Bob, Mike and Jordan:
I can't imagine your pain and grief at the loss of your beautiful son and brother. I will always remember being in Ft. Myers with Pat and gang for our 40th and you and Bob were staying at a condo on the other side. You guys came up to the condo with Ian in a stroller and he was adorable. That evening we went to a restaurant with you guys and Ian slept like an angel. I remember just staring at him. When I saw his picture, he is just as beautiful as I recall. I pray that somehow you all find some kind of peace. I am so very, very sorry and my thoughts and prayers will be with you and Ian for a very long time.
Love,
Jackie (Hein)
