SAMUEL MASIAS
December 18, 1955
September 3, 2022

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Samuel (Sam) Masias.
Sam was born December 18,1955 and departed this life on September 3, 2022.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Bertha Adame, daughter Brandy White (Paul), stepdaughters Brenda Adame, Kallista (Sergio) Chavez and Mariah Johnson. His grandchildren Eva White, Kaiden and Sophia Chavez. His siblings Dan Masias (Fawn), Patricia Masias, Don Masias, Glen Masias (Kelly), Tim Masias (Michele) Ben Masias (Peggy), Mark Masias (Deborah),
Juli Lebesky, Deborah Keller (Lonnie) and Brian Masias. Numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and too many friends to count.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel P. Masias and Helen Lujan Masias.
Sam graduated from Manitou Springs High School class of 1974 and earned a BA in Business from UCCS in 2005.
Sam was a Master Electrician by trade and an enthusiastic extrovert at heart. He used his skills, passion and knowledge to help as many people as he could. Sam had retired recently and was involved in remodeling his home in Chipita Park where he spent many hours known affectionately as Poppa Sam. Sam was passionate about solar power and took every opportunity available to share that passion. He was known by many as "Solar Sam" and had labeled himself "The Solar Evangelist". Sam was an outspoken activist who ruffled a lot of feathers at City Council meetings as he fought vehemently to see the closure of the Martin Drake Power Plant. He celebrated when it closed on September 1, 2022. Sam was a champion of the underdog; he never met a person he didn't consider a friend and was generous to a fault.
Please join us for a memorial service to celebrate the life of Sam. We will gather together on Sunday, October 9 at 10:00 a.m. at Hillside Garden located at 1006 S Institute St. Colo. Spgs. CO 80903 to remember our beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend who will be greatly missed every day. Please bring your fondest memories of Sam to share with family and friends. In lieu of flowers and in honor of Sam's memory please donate to Colorado Springs Electrical JATC.

I want to thank all of you that left a message on this website. It has comfort me to read your words because that´s exactly how I remember him.

Studying A Course of Miracles Lesson 159 "I give the miracles I have received". It reminded me of Sam the whole lesson! He brought us lilies from the Holy ground and prepared the soil with his light, warm and care. "His lilies do not leave their home when they are carried back into the world. Their roots remain. They do not leave their source but carry its beneficence with them and turn the world into a garden like the one they came from and to which they go again with added fragrance. Now they are twice Blessed." The message that Sam brought from Christ has been delivered and he returned gladly back Home.

I am so sorry to have missed Sam's memorial. Sam was a wonderful friend and mentor to me. He was always an advocate. It was Sam who encouraged me to apply for my first Facility Manager Position. And after that just became a friend. I am so sorry that we lost such a caring and enjoyable man. His joy of life and sense of humor will always be a fond memory for me. Brandy, I pray for your comfort and joy when you remember your dad. He had an amazing affect on the people he encountered. And was well loved and remembered.

I was so sad to learn you departed before your time but take comfort in knowing that you are once again in the loving embrace of Mom and Dad. I am also very grateful for the happy times we shared together growing up, working at the MBI, and cruising around in your mustard yellow Chevy truck, listening to 8 track tapes of Bob Dylan and Pink Floyd. And I´ll never forget the time we lived together in our first apartment up on 31st street. Back then we were young and foolish, living large at Manitou Springs High School during the day and racing around the Garden of the Gods at night. You are greatly missed but not forgotten little brother. Dios sea contigo.

Masias family,
You all were such a big part of growing up in Manitou, thinking back to our school years and always looked forward to seeing you all at the restaurant.

I worked with and for Sam for many years and came to regard him as a dear friend. Sam was one of the most respectable people I know, and he will be missed. He was a mentor to my Son who is now an electrician.
